What To Do With All Those Christmas Cards!

WHY CAN’T THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT LAST THE WHOLE YEAR LONG?

For many people, taking down the holiday decorations is a bit of a bittersweet reminder of the end of beautiful season and the passing of another year. I’d like to share with you a simple, yet beautiful, tradition of ours that allows the Christmas spirit to live on through the coldest months of winter.

When we take down all of the beautiful Christmas cards we receive, instead of recycling them immediately we put them in a paper bag that we keep near the table where we eat as a family. Each evening in the new year, as my family gathers together to eat, we take one of the cards out of the bag and pray for the friends who sent it to us.

If you don’t believe in prayer, simply take a moment and talk about why those friends are important to you.

Then, if you want to spread the Christmas spirit even more, if you use Facebook or e-mail or any social media for that matter, let your friend know that they were in your hearts and thoughts that night. Who wouldn’t love getting that message?

People often lament the fact that Christmas has lost its real meaning. And even for those who truly care about Christmas, its common to hear them say, “Why can’t the Christmas spirit last the whole year long?”

Use this simple plan. Depending on the number of Christmas cards you received, it will keep the spirit of love and friendship and family compassion live in your house for days, weeks, or months!

Please leave a comment below if you try it and share with all of us work the effects were for you!

  1. Lovely thought. I keep all the cards, and enjoy revisiting them each year, but this idea offers a new and better approach.
