One of the things that Amy Purdy is ALWAYS eager to mention is the incredible support she has had from her family.When she developed bacterial meningitis not only did she lose her legs, but her kidney as well. Her father donated one of his kidneys to save her life! She says, “First, my father gave me life. Then, he saved my life. How do you thank someone for that?” Her entire family has been a rock of support for her and her long time boyfriend was her trainer and cofound’s a charity devoted to helping other athletes with disabilities. Clearly, Amy Purdy has amazing drive and determination of her own. But you’re correct in pointing out that she did not get there on her own!

Stories like these are only inspirational. I have overcome my things in my life, but the bigger question is always how did she get there. If you lost both of your legs and had NO ONE to care enough to give you new ones what does it matter what you are capable of you will never have an opportunity to accomplish what you are CAPABLE of.
