SUMMARY:Movies About Lincoln - Abraham Lincoln On Film
DESCRIPTION:No American President has been portrayed on film more often than Abraham Lincoln! \nFrom the earliest days of silent movies\, Lincoln has been featured in more movies than all other Presidents combined. The most brilliant of these iconic performances can be seen in John Ford’s groundbreaking “Young Mr. Lincoln” starring Henry Fonda. Raymond Massey played Lincoln so often on stage\, movies\, and TV that George S. Kaufman famously observed: “[Raymond] Massey won’t be satisfied until he’s assassinated!” \nEven in contemporary films such as Spielberg’s “Lincoln\,” the myth of Honest Abe grows and evolves with each movie. In this insightful\, mesmerizing and nostalgic multimedia presentation\, you will see my work as a Lincoln scholar combined with my love of classic cinema! \nPLEASE NOTE: This program is FREE\, but registration is strongly recommended!

SUMMARY:Who Killed JFK – Historian Presents a Modern Analysis
DESCRIPTION: Who Killed JFK?\n I’ll Tell You! \n \nThe murder of John F. Kennedy on November 22\, 1963\, shocked the nation. A suspect was quickly arrested and subsequently murdered. President Lyndon Johnson appointed a blue ribbon committee – the Warren Commission – to answer the question: who killed JFK? \nTheir conclusion was that Lee Harvey Oswald was the sole assassin. Immediately\, the public was skeptical. Stephen King described Oswald as “a semi-educated hillbilly with delusions of grandeur.” How could such an insignificant loser pull off such a dastardly crime? And why did Jack Ruby\, accused of being a Mob member\, kill Oswald? \nWe have been through with whispered knowledge of conspiracies and confessions and coverups. And so the public has asked for an explanation of the “magic bullet.” \nAnd the contradictory witness statements. \nAnd Oswald’s shadowy past. \nAnd all of the “secret files.” \nAnd all of the conspiracy theories. \nAnd all of the “mysterious deaths” associated with the assassination? \nBooks and articles\, movies and documentaries have raised in innumerable questions about who killed JFK. \nWho Killed JFK – Computer Analysis\nSo who killed JFK? I will attempt to answer as many of these questions as possible. First I will attempt to separate historical fact from theory & speculation. Second\, I will show what the historical record actually indicates happened. We have access to much more information today then the Warren Commission had in 1963/4 or the House of Representatives had in 1977. Third\, we will examine what modern computer forensics can tell us about the crime. For instance\, the Warren Commission had access to the “Zapruder Film.”  Today\, we can use computers to enhance and analyze the film. We can use modern technology to analyze the path of each of the bullets that were fired. \nWho Killed JFK – Computer Analysis \nAnd we can use computers to isolate the mysterious sounds captured by a Dallas motorcycle patrolman.  In 1977\, the House of Representatives believed that the recording showed four shots fired in Dealy Plaza.  The National Academy of Science\, among many other groups\, have taken the same sound recordings and used state-of-the-art technology to analyze them. What do we know now? \nYou may not agree with my conclusions\, but you will definitely learn a lot and come away with a new perspective about the historical record of who killed JFK. \nBONUS! Click Here to read how one of JFK’s Secret Service agents saved the life of Harry Truman – TWICE!

SUMMARY:The Declaration of Independence – America's Purpose Statement
DESCRIPTION:The Declaration Of Independence – America’s Purpose Statement\nIt was a moment that changed the history of the world forever. Throughout recorded time\, there had been innumerable revolutions\, revolts\, and separatist movements. But never had such a group of educated men decided to place the context of their revolution in the scope of human rights and do so with a written document that inspires people to this day. The bold committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence\, primarily Thomas Jefferson\, Benjamin Franklin\, and John Adams  understood that the revolution was about something more profound than simply political rights or taxation. They understood the importance of the moment.  Drawing on the natural rights of men\, they made the American Revolution a struggle for the concepts of equality and democracy. They saw a higher purpose for their actions. With a major American city under siege and occupied by soldiers their very lives were on the line. Yet the Continental Congress stood their ground by approving a document that contained the most important sentence ever written by an American.  The thrilling events that led to the Declaration of Independence and its actual meaning and influence on America will come to life in this exciting multimedia presentation. \nWe will focus on the importance of the Declaration of Independence. We will see how it has inspired and motivated generations of Americans.  In addition\, we will see how Abraham Lincoln elevated it in the minds of the American people.

SUMMARY:Hizzoner - Richard J. Daley\, The Mayor Of Chicago
DESCRIPTION:Richard J. Daley was the Mayor of Chicago for 21 years.\nThe Legacy Of Richard J. Daley\nHis legacy is complex and his accomplishments controversial\, substantial\, and long-lasting. \nA poll of professional historians named Richard J. Daley as the sixth most effective mayor in the history of the United States. \nDr. Martin Luther King Jr. saw Mayor Daley as the embodiment of segregation and racism. \nRichard J. Daley’s methods were not democratic but White Chicago grew and prospered under his leadership. Richard J. Daley’s early life reads like a Horatio Alger story. He was the grandson of a butcher. He was the son of a sheet metal worker.  Richard J. Daley sold newspapers\, worked in the stockyards\, and made deliveries. He worked his way through school during the depression\, taking night classes to learn clerical skills and then a law degree. \n He worked his way up through the Chicago political machine\, beginning as a Democratic Precinct captain. He was actually elected as a Republican to the state legislature\, but quickly switched parties. He worked with then Gov. Adlai Stevenson and worked his way up through the ranks of the Democratic Party. His election as mayor cemented his power in Chicago. Whether he was overseeing the massive building projects in downtown Chicago\, fighting against the efforts of Martin Luther King to integrate the city\, battling protesters at the 1968 Democratic convention\, or building a party infrastructure that would last well beyond his lifetime\, Richard J. Daley led an extraordinary life. \nIn this fast-paced multimedia presentation\, we will delve into the personal background and relationships of Chicago’s Mayor Richard J. Daley. We will look at his complex\, controversial\, and contradictory reputation for effectiveness and repression. You will come away with a deeper understanding – if not a different opinion – of Mayor Richard J. Daley.

SUMMARY:Over There: America In World War I
DESCRIPTION:It was “The War To End All Wars” and “The War To Make The World Safe For Democracy.” When Woodrow Wilson reversed the policy of American non-involvement in foreign wars\, he broke a tradition that had begun with George Washington. The role of America in World War I is still vitally important as our nation makes strategic decisions on both peace and war. \nThe effects of World War I are both obvious (the rise of the Nazi government in Germany) and less immediately apparent. As an example\, as a result of the involvement of America In World War I\, the groundwork was laid for the eventual establishment of Israel. \nOver There: America In World War I\nThis fast-moving and fascinating multimedia presentation will trace the roots of American involvement in “The Great War\,” including how it reshaped the major political parties. We will look at the military participation of American troops fighting on European soil and look at length at the peace process and how it laid the groundwork for the rise of Hitler and the start of World War II \nPLEASE NOTE: This is a special presentation\, sponsored by the Signal Hill Chapter of The Daughters Of The American Revolution. The program is free to the public!

SUMMARY:The Patient Is The President - Deaths And Near Deaths
DESCRIPTION:The assassination of John F. Kennedy shocked the nation. As the mortally wounded President was rushed to Parkland Hospital\, surgeons scrambled to try and save him. When the patient is the President\, the whole nation is watching the every move of the doctors. Since that fateful day in November 1963\, every choice\, action\, and report of the medical team has been scrutinized and second-guessed by professionals and laymen alike. As a result of the historical Monday morning quarterbacking of the public\, every medical treatment of every President since has been reported in minute detail! \nThis unique and fast-paced multimedia presentation will have you enthralled as we watch doctors desperately work to save the lives of Presidents Lincoln\, Garfield\, and Reagan after they were shot. We will also look at how other Presidential health crises were handled (or mishandled) by physicians. For instance\, President John Tyler might well have lived had his doctors simply done nothing at all!  Woodrow Wilson’s crippling stroke was kept secret from the public\, the media\, and even the Congress by his doctor. In each case\, we will look at what was done\, what wasn’t done and whether medicine today might have changed the diagnosis\, treatment or the outcome! \n

SUMMARY:Paul Revere A Patriot With A Purpose
DESCRIPTION:Paul Revere A Patriot With A Purpose\nPaul Revere is a unique figure in USA history.  His name is universally known for his “Midnight Ride” yet he seems to appear out of nowhere on that day and disappear the next.  Like Rosa Parks\, he seems to be important for one day of his life which changes American History and then simply vanishes.  But like Mrs. Parks\, Paul Revere was a brave\, determined and respected leader who led a rich\, full and important life before and after his moment of fame. \nWhile Americans recall something of the drama of Paul Revere’s ride\, the details are more harrowing\, exciting and heroic than you may realize. The CIA credits Revere as organizing the first spy network to protect America! \nRevere was captured by the British and threatened with death. He escaped the clutches and rode through their lines and saved the next of John Hancock and John Adams.  Using his quick wits and unbelievable courage\, Paul Revere even managed to smuggle top-secret documents to safety under the nose of the British column! \nHow was Paul Revere a Patriot with a purpose? Come to this exciting and unexpected presentation to learn about how the amazing Paul Revere organized Boston’s resistance to a foreign occupation\, revolutionized American industry – oh\, and managed to take the midnight ride!

Daley.

SUMMARY:The Revolutionary War
DESCRIPTION:Most Americans simply do not know very much about the Revolutionary War.   \nAlthough certain images from the Revolutionary War are seared into our memory – Washington Crossing the Delaware  and the signing of the Declaration of Independence –  many people would be hard-pressed to name a major battle\, a leading general or even how the War For Independence ended.  Recent events in America have caused some to question whether we should even have statues of George Washington on public display. \nTHE REVOLUTIONARY WAR\n In this four-part series on the Revolutionary War we will examine why the freest and most prosperous colonials in the world decided to declare independence from a mother country that had protected them. We will look at the roots of the war\, the Declaration of Independence\, the early battles including Lexington\, Concord\, and Bunker Hill before transitioning into a longer look at the seven years of fighting necessary for America to begin its experiment in participatory democracy. We will also look at the amazing and diverse leaders who guided America. Benjamin Franklin\,James Monroe\, John Adams\, Paul Revere\, George Washington\, Thomas Jefferson\, and Alexander Hamilton will be some of the people whom we will meet. I encourage you to learn more about how America came to be!
