SUMMARY:The Patient Is The President - Deaths And Near Deaths
DESCRIPTION:The assassination of John F. Kennedy shocked the nation. As the mortally wounded President was rushed to Parkland Hospital\, surgeons scrambled to try and save him. When the patient is the President\, the whole nation is watching the every move of the doctors. Since that fateful day in November 1963\, every choice\, action\, and report of the medical team has been scrutinized and second-guessed by professionals and laymen alike. As a result of the historical Monday morning quarterbacking of the public\, every medical treatment of every President since has been reported in minute detail! \nThis unique and fast-paced multimedia presentation will have you enthralled as we watch doctors desperately work to save the lives of Presidents Lincoln\, Garfield\, and Reagan after they were shot. We will also look at how other Presidential health crises were handled (or mishandled) by physicians. For instance\, President John Tyler might well have lived had his doctors simply done nothing at all!  Woodrow Wilson’s crippling stroke was kept secret from the public\, the media\, and even the Congress by his doctor. In each case\, we will look at what was done\, what wasn’t done and whether medicine today might have changed the diagnosis\, treatment or the outcome! \n

Lincoln that night. This short article will give you a glimpse of the strange effects of the assassination. If you are fascinated by Lincoln as a person\, click here to read an article about my favorite movie portrayal of Lincoln \n \nand click here to read my response to truth and fiction in the popular Steven Spielberg “Lincoln” movie.  And you can click here to read about the mind of Lincoln – how he decided to declare a national day of Thanksgiving in the middle of the bloodiest war in American history. \n I promise this will be a presentation you will long remember! \n A Bonus!\nClick here for a real treat. On the old game show\, “I’ve Got a Secret” the last known living witness to the assassination of Pres. Lincoln by the terrorist\, John Wilkes Booth\, made an appearance on February 9\, 1956. SUMMARY:Movies About Lincoln - Abraham Lincoln On Film
DESCRIPTION:No American President has been portrayed on film more often than Abraham Lincoln! \nFrom the earliest days of silent movies\, Lincoln has been featured in more movies than all other Presidents combined. The most brilliant of these iconic performances can be seen in John Ford’s groundbreaking “Young Mr. Lincoln” starring Henry Fonda. Raymond Massey played Lincoln so often on stage\, movies\, and TV that George S. Kaufman famously observed: “[Raymond] Massey won’t be satisfied until he’s assassinated!” \nEven in contemporary films such as Spielberg’s “Lincoln\,” the myth of Honest Abe grows and evolves with each movie. In this insightful\, mesmerizing and nostalgic multimedia presentation\, you will see my work as a Lincoln scholar combined with my love of classic cinema!

SUMMARY:Paul Revere A Patriot With A Purpose
DESCRIPTION:Paul Revere A Patriot With A Purpose\nPaul Revere is a unique figure in USA history.  His name is universally known for his “Midnight Ride” yet he seems to appear out of nowhere on that day and disappear the next.  Like Rosa Parks\, he seems to be important for one day of his life which changes American History and then simply vanishes.  But like Mrs. Parks\, Paul Revere was a brave\, determined and respected leader who led a rich\, full and important life before and after his moment of fame. \nWhile Americans recall something of the drama of Paul Revere’s ride\, the details are more harrowing\, exciting and heroic than you may realize. The CIA credits Revere as organizing the first spy network to protect America! \nRevere was captured by the British and threatened with death. He escaped the clutches and rode through their lines and saved the next of John Hancock and John Adams.  Using his quick wits and unbelievable courage\, Paul Revere even managed to smuggle top-secret documents to safety under the nose of the British column! \nHow was Paul Revere a Patriot with a purpose? Come to this exciting and unexpected presentation to learn about how the amazing Paul Revere organized Boston’s resistance to a foreign occupation\, revolutionized American industry – oh\, and managed to take the midnight ride!

The Democratic convention riots of 1967 were turning point in history of politics and in the history of Chicago. SUMMARY:Hizzoner - Richard J. Daley\, The Mayor Of Chicago
DESCRIPTION:Richard J. Daley was the Mayor of Chicago for 21 years.\nThe Legacy Of Richard J. Daley\nHis legacy is complex and his accomplishments controversial\, substantial\, and long-lasting. \nA poll of professional historians named Richard J. Daley as the sixth most effective mayor in the history of the United States. \nDr. Martin Luther King Jr. saw Mayor Daley as the embodiment of segregation and racism. \nRichard J. Daley’s methods were not democratic but White Chicago grew and prospered under his leadership. Richard J. Daley’s early life reads like a Horatio Alger story. He was the grandson of a butcher. He was the son of a sheet metal worker.  Richard J. Daley sold newspapers\, worked in the stockyards\, and made deliveries. He worked his way through school during the depression\, taking night classes to learn clerical skills and then a law degree. \n He worked his way up through the Chicago political machine\, beginning as a Democratic Precinct captain. He was actually elected as a Republican to the state legislature\, but quickly switched parties. He worked with then Gov. Adlai Stevenson and worked his way up through the ranks of the Democratic Party. His election as mayor cemented his power in Chicago. Whether he was overseeing the massive building projects in downtown Chicago\, fighting against the efforts of Martin Luther King to integrate the city\, battling protesters at the 1968 Democratic convention\, or building a party infrastructure that would last well beyond his lifetime\, Richard J. Daley led an extraordinary life. \nIn this fast-paced multimedia presentation\, we will delve into the personal background and relationships of Chicago’s Mayor Richard J. Daley. We will look at his complex\, controversial\, and contradictory reputation for effectiveness and repression. You will come away with a deeper understanding – if not a different opinion – of Mayor Richard J. Daley.

SUMMARY:The Democratic Convention Of 1968
DESCRIPTION:1968 Democratic Convention\n \n“The Whole World Is Watching!  The Whole World Is Watching! So when the chant from thousands of protesters caught in a pitched battle with the police on the streets of Chicago is the Democratic Party sought to nominate a candidate for president. The Democratic convention riots of 1967 were turning point in history of politics and in the history of Chicago. Never before had live television cameras cameras captured what was later termed a “police riot” live on television.  While the battle of Chicago raged wildly on Michigan Avenue\, the tension erupted in violence and anger in the convention hall itself. \nAs the nation watched  in disbelief\, convention delegates and network reporters were beaten\, delegate credentials were forged in an effort to pack the galleries with Chicago city employees\, and the mayor of the city\, Richard J Daley\, screamed an obscenity at a Jewish United States senator on live television. \nIn this exciting multimedia presentation\, we will explore the roots of the events that culminated in the riots of 1968. From growing public frustration to the stalemate in Vietnam in the wake of the Tet Offensive to the insurgent campaign of Sen. Eugene McCarthy\, politics in America were thrown into turmoil. And just as the country seemed more and more to be spinning out of control\, we were hit with the shock of the public assassinations of Dr. Martin Luther King and Sen. Robert F.  Kennedy. All of these events and many more makes for an exceptionally exciting\, thought-provoking\, and mesmerizing presentation.

SUMMARY:Paul Revere A Patriot With A Purpose

SUMMARY:The Revolutionary War
DESCRIPTION:Most Americans simply do not know very much about the Revolutionary War.   \nAlthough certain images from the Revolutionary War are seared into our memory – Washington Crossing the Delaware  and the signing of the Declaration of Independence –  many people would be hard-pressed to name a major battle\, a leading general or even how the War For Independence ended.  Recent events in America have caused some to question whether we should even have statues of George Washington on public display. \nTHE REVOLUTIONARY WAR\n In this four-part series on the Revolutionary War we will examine why the freest and most prosperous colonials in the world decided to declare independence from a mother country that had protected them. We will look at the roots of the war\, the Declaration of Independence\, the early battles including Lexington\, Concord\, and Bunker Hill before transitioning into a longer look at the seven years of fighting necessary for America to begin its experiment in participatory democracy. We will also look at the amazing and diverse leaders who guided America. Benjamin Franklin\,James Monroe\, John Adams\, Paul Revere\, George Washington\, Thomas Jefferson\, and Alexander Hamilton will be some of the people whom we will meet. I encourage you to learn more about how America came to be!

SUMMARY:Huntley And Brinkley
DESCRIPTION: Chet Huntley and David Brinkley were the direct competitors with Walter Cronkite during many of their years on here. And for most of the early years\, the NBC team actually drew more viewers than Uncle Walter did on CBS! They were very different men with different approaches to the news and weren’t particularly close off the air. But as a serious news team\, they broke important stories and offered America great insight into the events of the day. Their individual stories\, as well as their on-air reporting\, are featured in this multimedia presentation.

SUMMARY:The Declaration of Independence – America's Purpose Statement
DESCRIPTION:Signing Of The Declaration Of Independence \nThe Declaration Of Independence – America’s Purpose Statement\nIt was a moment that changed the history of the world forever. Throughout recorded time\, there had been innumerable revolutions\, revolts\, and separatist movements. But never had such a group of educated men decided to place the context of their revolution in the scope of human rights and do so with a written document that inspires people to this day. The bold committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence\, primarily Thomas Jefferson\, Benjamin Franklin and John Adams understood that the Revolution was about something more profound than simply political rights or taxation. They understood the importance of the moment.  Drawing on the natural rights of men\, they made the American Revolution a struggle for the concepts of equality and democracy. The Founding Fathers saw a higher purpose for their actions. With a major American city under siege and occupied by foreign soldiers their very lives were on the line. \nYet the Continental Congress stood their ground by approving a document that contained the most important sentence ever written by an American.  The thrilling events that led to the Declaration of Independence and its actual meaning and influence on America will come to life in this exciting multimedia presentation. \nWe will focus on the importance of the Declaration of Independence. We will see how it has inspired and motivated generations of Americans.  In addition\, we will see how Abraham Lincoln elevated it in the minds of the American people.

SUMMARY:Al Capone - Master Of The Mob
DESCRIPTION:Organized crime came in with a bang – literally – with the rise of prohibition. And no city was more under the control of the mob than Chicago. This exciting look at the rise of the Chicago mob in the early days culminating with Al Capone finishes with a fascinating look at how Sam Giancana changed the Syndicate in Chicago from a group of bootlegging dogs to an international powerhouse that influenced American presidential elections and American foreign-policy. We’ll examine how ethnic neighborhoods\, Chicago city politics and the Kennedy administration all played into the tremendous influence of organized crime in Chicago. \nAl Capone was one of the most famous gangsters in American History.  Unlike many organized crime leaders\, he did little to hide his identity. He was seen at Wrigley Field chatting with star catcher Gabby Hartnett. \nGabby Hartnett Chats With Al Capone \nhosting soup kitchens for the unemployed and even appearing on the cover of Time Magazine. \nThe true story of Capone’s rise and fall is complex and unexpected. He began a hoodlum in Brooklyn\, working for Frankie Yale\, the first man to begin organizing the mob in New York. Capone moved to Chicago to assist Frankie Torrio\, second in command of the Chicago mob.  With ferocity and force\, Capone would come to head the Chicago outfit – before a meek bookkeeper and the tax laws brought him down! \n  \nGreat news!  This program is open to the public and free!  Contact the venue ahead of time to reserve a seat! \n

SUMMARY:History Vs. the Movies: Mississippi Burning
DESCRIPTION: History Vs. the Movies: Mississippi Burning\nMississippi Burning: The Civil Rights Era is one of the most exciting\, important\, and electrifying eras in American history. \nFrom a cinematic standpoint\, it had everything. Dynamic and diverse leadership\, powerful and determined villains\, mystery\, motivation\, and manipulation. Nonetheless\, movies about the era generally not been hits and despite the hype about Selma\, no great masterpiece of filmmaking has yet emerged. “Mississippi Burning”  is a brilliant film but\, from a historical point of view\, utter nonsense. “Selma” is a maddening jumble. In its sections on Martin Luther King\, it is extraordinary. In its sections on Lyndon Johnson\, it is completely misleading. “Ghosts of Mississippi” is an earnest and well-made film about the trial of the murderer of Medgar Evers. However\, unless you already knew quite a bit about Medgar Evers\, you would leave the film wondering who exactly he was. \nSome of the best films about the Civil Rights Movement have actually been made-for-TV films. Clark Johnson directed “Boycott”  for HBO and it combines arresting visuals with superb acting. The Rosa Parks made-for-TV movie was likewise very good. Spike Lee directed an outstanding documentary\, “Four Little Girls.”  But so far\, a genuine cinematic masterpiece about the Civil Rights Era has eluded filmmakers. \nIn this fast-moving and thought-provoking multimedia presentation\, we will look at clips from some of the films about the Civil Rights Movement.   Our special focus will be on “Mississippi Burning.” Using inside stories\, personal anecdotes and a clear timeline\, we will see how this brilliantly made film distorted history and changed America’s perceptions about the Movement. \nCheck this out: in “Mississippi Burning\,”  the FBI gets an invaluable ship to find out where the bodies are buried. The screenwriter and director had to fictionalize where the tip came from. That is because the mystery informant had never been revealed. Working with the brilliant investigative reporter Jerry Mitchell\, I was able to help figure out where the tip had come from – Jerry uncovered the identity of the mysterious “Mr. X.” Click here to find out who he was! \nPLEASE NOTE: Registration is required to attend.

SUMMARY:Who Killed JFK – Historian Presents a Modern Analysis
DESCRIPTION: Who Killed JFK?\n I’ll Tell You! \n \nThe murder of John F. Kennedy on November 22\, 1963 shocked the nation. A suspect was quickly arrested and subsequently murdered. President Lyndon Johnson appointed a blue ribbon committee – the Warren Commission – to answer the question: who killed JFK? \nThey concluded that Lee Harvey Oswald was the sole assassin. Immediately\, the public was skeptical. Stephen King described Oswald as “a semi-educated hillbilly with delusions of grandeur.” How could such an insignificant loser pull off such a dastardly crime? And why did Jack Ruby\, accused of being a Mob member\, kill Oswald? \nWe have been through with whispered knowledge of conspiracies and confessions and coverups. And so the public has asked for an explanation of the “magic bullet.” \nAnd the contradictory witness statements. \nAnd Oswald’s shadowy past. \nAnd all of the “secret files.” \nAnd all of the conspiracy theories. \nAnd all of the “mysterious deaths” associated with the assassination? \nBooks and articles\, movies and documentaries have raised in innumerable questions about who killed JFK. \nWho Killed JFK – Computer Analysis\nSo who killed JFK? I will attempt to answer as many of these questions as possible. First I will attempt to separate historical fact from theory & speculation. Second\, I will show what the historical record actually indicates happened. We have access to much more information today then the Warren Commission had in 1963/4 or the House of Representatives had in 1977. Third\, we will examine what modern computer forensics can tell us about the crime. For instance\, the Warren Commission had access to the “Zapruder Film.”  Today\, we can use computers to enhance and analyze the film. We can use modern technology to analyze the path of each of the bullets that were fired. \nWho Killed JFK – Computer Analysis \nAnd we can use computers to isolate the mysterious sounds captured by a Dallas\, motorcycle patrolman.  In 1977\, the House of Representatives believed that the recording showed four shots fired in Dealy Plaza.  The National Academy of Science\, among many other groups\, have taken the same sound recordings and used state-of-the-art technology to analyze them. What do we know now? \nYou may not agree with my conclusions\, but you will definitely learn a lot and come away with a new perspective about the historical record of who killed JFK.

SUMMARY:1862 The Civil War Year By Year- The Battle For America
DESCRIPTION:1862 The Civil War At 150\n\n\n\n\nA Nation Divided – 1862 The Civil War\n\n\n\nWhen the Civil War began\, both sides believed the war would end quickly. They could not have been more wrong. At the two day Battle of Shiloh\,there were more American casualties than in the entire Revolutionary War\, the War Of 1812 and the Mexican – American War – combined. Both sides realized that the War would be long and bloody and that the casualty count would stagger the imagination. \nThe Southern (“Confederate” traitors were helped in 1862 by good military leadership but their cause was hurt by inept political leadership fighting for the right to hold human beings as forced laborers  sexual slaves under the guise of “State’s Rights.”  \nThe United States Of America was hurt by uneven military leadership and helped enormously by political leadership that evolved and grew in purpose and resolve. \nIn this this week’s presentation we will trace the dual paths of the USA and the traitors and note the emergence of General Grant. \n  \n

SUMMARY:1861 The Civil War Year By Year - Reflections On Amercia's Deadliest War
DESCRIPTION:1860 & 1861 The Civil War Year By Year\nThe Declaration Of Independence stated “We hold these truths to be self evident\, that all men are created equal…” The Civil War tested whether or not we really meant it. In 1860 and 1861 the Civil War began. \nThis exciting four week series will trace the history of the Civil War. In 1860\, our nation faced one of the most crucial elections in our history.  Four great candidates stood for office.  The only real issue was slavery.  Today we see the practice of kidnapping human beings and holding them against their will as abhorrent.  In 1860\, the economy and social structure of an entire region of the United States was built on the premise that kidnapping and bondage were acceptable means of making money.  Our four week series begins with an in depth look at the Lincoln Douglas debates of 1858\, the election of 1860\, and the secession of  the Confederate States. \nIn 1861 the Civil War really began.  We saw American citizens in revolt against the Constitution while holding millions of people against their will.  We saw personal tragedies unfold as the tender hearted Abraham Lincoln saw the body of the first American patriot killed by the rebels brought back to Washington DC.  The body was that of Elmer Ellsworth.  He was a close friend of Lincoln’s. The death of Elmer Ellsworth represents the personal nature of this deadly fight. \nPeople happily brought picnic baskets to watch the First Battle Of Bull Run unfold.  By the end of the battle\, America knew was was not glamorous and victory would be difficult. Among the topics to be covered are the election of 1860\, the secession of the terrorist groups and the first year of the Civil War. \nWe will explore how in 1861 the Civil War began a great test of America’s moral purpose\, military strength and future direction began. \nToday the battlefields of the Civil War are quiet. \n \nWe will see how they were the sites of the greatest struggle in American history. \n

SUMMARY:Charles Lindbergh - A Life In Three Acts
DESCRIPTION:Charles Lindbergh led one of the most unique lives of any American! \nLindbergh’s life played out in three acts. The first is the most celebrated and best known. The “aw shucks” small town boy with a passion for flying became the first person ever to fly solo across the Atlantic. “Lucky Lindy” was the most famous\, popular and revered man of his time. Everyone around the world admired and respected him! \nThe second act of the life Col. Charles Lindbergh took on a much darker tone. When\n his infant son was kidnapped from crib while his parents were at home\, Lindbergh was again the biggest news story in the country. While police frantically searched for the kidnapped boy\, Lindbergh did everything in his power to find his son. He had gangsters trying to help\, followed “psychics” to obscure locations and accompanied an innocent civilian who strangely became the go-between with the kidnappers.  \nAfter the boy’s body was discovered\, Charles Lindbergh became a star witness in the second “Crime Of The Century.” (Click here to read about the first!) The verdict in that trial became as controversial and widely debated as would the O. J. Simpson case near the end of the century. Books are still being written about it! \nThe third act of Lindbergh’s life is the least known and the most bizarre. \nCharles Lindbergh\, the All-American hero\, became on of the nation’s most prominent supporters of the Nazi movement in Germany. Both in America and in Europe\, Lindbergh lent his famous name and considerable influence to try and convince the USA to support Hitler! \nYou will be amazed at the fascinating and complex life of Charles Lindbergh!
