SUMMARY:The Crime of the Century – The Supermodel\, The Architect\, And the Insane Millionaire
DESCRIPTION:Click here to read more about this amazing story! \nAt the dawn of the 20th century\, America was riveted by the first celebrity murder case in America. Every element of this story is fascinating! \nThe murderer was already famous and so was the victim and so was the murderer’s wife. The venue was famous\, and so were the lawyers involved. The only thing missing was wall-to-wall cable news coverage! As I often say when speaking to audiences: “You can’t make this stuff up!” \nThe Crime: Stanford White\, the most famous architect in America\, was murdered on the rooftop of Madison Square Garden (a building he designed) by Harry K Thaw of Pittsburgh\, the insane millionaire heir to one of America’s great fortunes.  With some justification\, Thaw obsessively believed that Stanford White had drugged and raped Thaw’s teenage wife – the very glamorous and very young showgirl Evelyn Nesbitt. And just to make the story even more tabloid-ready\, Ms. Nesbitt was the first supermodel in American history. \nYou cannot make this stuff up! \nDoes this fantastic and unique true crime story sound just a little familiar? \nIn that case\, it’s because the story of the murder of Stanford White by Harry K. Thaw and the involvement of glamorous Evelyn Nesbit was the basis of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel\, Oscar Award-winning movie\, and Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “Ragtime” and the 1950s potboiler film “The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing.” \nThis fascinating\, one-of-a-kind multimedia presentation will bring to life the vivid celebrities\, lurid crime\, and surprising history of the first crime of the century. \nCOST FOR NON-MEMBERS IS $14 \n

SUMMARY:Hamilton: The Man\, Miranda And The Musical
DESCRIPTION:Who could have predicted that an 818-page biography of America’s first Secretary of the Treasury\, Alexander Hamilton\, would become one of the biggest Broadway smashes of all time? Yet this fascinating blend of history and hip-hop\, political debate\, and show tunes has not only swept the Tony Awards but played to standing-room-only audiences for over 8 years! \nNaturally\, as a historian who lives for Broadway\, I couldn’t wait to be in the audience. And I can tell you that the show more than lives up to its hype. This is an amazing work of genius – a combination of history\, music\, performance\, and thought-provoking content that will long be considered a hallmark in the history of Broadway. \n Alexander Hamilton: The Man\, The Writer\, The Musical\nIn this brand-new\, fast-paced\, and fascinating multimedia presentation\, I will offer audiences a mini-biography of the real Alexander Hamilton and his place in American history. Then we will look at the life and work of Lin-Manuel Miranda\, the genius who created and starred in Hamilton. \nFinally\, we will look at the musical itself. I’ll play excerpts from the songs\, explain the narrative structure and help you have a greater appreciation for the show\, whether you’ve seen it a dozen times already or are seeing it for the first time! \n

DESCRIPTION:I’m back with the latest installment of my popular “Time Capsule” series! Each session will explore the year’s top news stories\, top movies and shows\, famous birds and deaths\, what things cost\, and so much more! \nIn this session\, we will dive into America as it was 75 years ago\, \nIn the tumultuous year of 1948. The baby boom was in full swing; we read the famous “Dewey defeats Truman” headline\, and “Uncle Milty” – the one and only Milton Berle – made Americans run out and buy their first television! 1948 brought one of the most exciting upset elections of all time; Israel was born\, as was Billy Crystal\, Gandhi was assassinated\, and the first instant cameras were used. \n\
