SUMMARY:Best Movies About Politics (Part I)
DESCRIPTION:Films will be presented chronologically. \nPolitics and the movies are a match made in heaven! Movies need compelling characters\, suspenseful plots\, unexpected twists\, and a great conclusion. Politics provides all the above and then some! In this remarkable new presentation\, Best Movies About Politics\, I’ll present my admittedly idiosyncratic list of the best films ever made about American politics. Some are dramas\, and some are comedies. Some are old classics\, and some are very modern. Some are well-known\, critically acclaimed Hollywood films\, and others are excellent but obscure! \nBest Movies About Politics\nThis fun\, fascinating\, and fast-moving presentation is one of my favorites\, combining my love of great cinema with a lifelong fascination with elections. And where else will you find a list that plausibly contains Henry Fonda\, Eddie Murphy\, Kirk Douglas\, George Clooney\, and Jimmy Stewart? From directors Frank Capra and Preston Sturges to Rob Reiner and screenwriters Aaron Sorkin to Rod Serling\, some of the most incredible talent in movie history have tackled the subject of elections in films that are entertaining\, thought-provoking\, and often unforgettable. We will look at clips from some of them and consider others! \nOf course\, we will leave time for discussion and your choices. Let’s see what everyone else chooses as the best movies about politics! \n

SUMMARY:Sid Caesar - The Meteoric Career Of A Comic Genius
DESCRIPTION:In the opinion of many TV critics\, the Sid Caesar programs were the funniest \, best-written and most creative shows in the history of television comedy. Caesar’s writing crew (including Carl Reiner\, Woody Allen\, Mel Brooks\, Neil Simon\, and Selma Diamond( is widely regarded as the most talented staff in the history of television. \nThe sheer talent of Sid Caesar is overwhelming – as  Carl Reiner\, his writer\, and co-star\, put it: \n“Sid Caesar set the template for everybody\,” Reiner told KNX-AM in Los Angeles. “He was without a doubt the greatest sketch comedian-monologist that television ever produced. He could ad-lib. He could do anything that was necessary to make an audience laugh.” \n \nFor all his accolades\, however\, Sid Caesar was a deeply troubled man who saw a brilliant career waste away in the wake of his addictions. After his TV programs ended\, his fame evaporated as his demons challenged him\,  It took intensive self-therapy and personal courage for him to turn his life around. And did he ever!  By the time of his death\, he was once again rewarded with the respect and reverence his comic genius deserved. \nThis unique multimedia presentation will explore all sides of Sid Caesar. You will laugh uproariously at the rare video clips and find yourself mesmerized by the intense struggle of the king of Comedy. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:History Vs. The Movies - Capote and In Cold Blood
DESCRIPTION:Click Here To Read About “In Cold Blood” \n \nOn a quiet Monday in November 1969\, Truman Capote was sitting in his apartment in Manhattan\, reading page 39 of the New York Times\, where he found the following 300-word account of a brutal murder in an obscure corner of bar Western Kansas. \n“A wealthy wheat farmer\, his wife\, and their two young children were found shot to death today in their home. They had been killed by shotgun blasts at close range after being bound and gagged. The father\, 48-year-old Herbert W. Clutter\, was found in the basement with his son\, Kenyon\, 15. His wife Bonnie\, 45\, and a daughter\, Nancy\, 16\, were in their beds. There were no signs of a struggle\, and nothing had been stolen. The telephone lines had been cut. “This is apparently the case of a psychopathic killer\,” Sheriff Earl Robinson said. Mr. Clutter was the founder of The Kansas Wheat Growers Association. […] Mr. Clutter\, his wife\, and daughter were clad in pajamas. The boy was wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt. The bodies were discovered by two of Nancy’s classmates\, Susan Kidwell and Nancy Ewalt. Sheriff Robinson said the last reported communication with Mr. Clutter took place last night at about 9:30 PM when the victim called Gerald Van Vleet\, his business partner\, who lives nearby. Mr. Van Vleet said the conversation had concerned the farm and ranch.” \nAs he read\, Capote became fascinated by how such a shocking crime would affect a small\, close-knit community. \nThe Clutter Family \nTruman Capote immediately decided to visit the town. Aided by Harper Lee (later the author of ‘To Kill A Mockingbird)\, he spent the next five years getting to know everyone in the town: the investigators\, friends of the victims\, and especially the killers. \nIn 1966\, he published what was called the first “nonfiction novel\,” the blockbuster bestseller and later film\, “In Cold Blood.” These same events have been retold in two biographical movies\, “Capote” starring Philip Seymour Hoffman\, and  “Infamous” starring Toby Jones. \nIn this unique multimedia presentation\, we will explore Capote’s life and his work on “In Cold Blood” and try and determine how historically accurate are the book and film. \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00.
