SUMMARY:George Washington: The Perfect Man For America
DESCRIPTION:George Washington is America’s greatest hero. He was our greatest soldier. He was also our greatest President.  His contemporaries already knew that he was a man whose importance to the nation could never be questioned.  One of the most honored statesmen of the day had this to say when Washington died: “First in war\, first in peace\, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.” \n \nGeorge Washington was tall\, athletic\, and absolutely fearless. Yet his military career was spotted before Congress appointed him to be the commanding General the head of the Continental Army\, Click here to read a fascinating account of why he is still the highest-ranking American military officer of all time. Although we remember him as a great General\, his first year of command was disastrous! \nBut then at the Battle Of Trenton. General Washington’s courage\, daring\, and heroic leadership became evident to the world. That battle is best remembered for the breathtaking Christmas crossing of the Delaware River\, but it also holds the amazing distinction of the first military battle ever fought in an urban setting! More importantly\, the Battle Of Trenton directly changed the course of the history of America – and the entire world! It is the single most important battle in the history of the USA. \n \nClick here to read more about why the Battle of Trenton is so important to the history of the world. \nAfter the Revolution\, of course\, Washington’s fame and importance only grew. As the first President of the United States\, he helped turn America from a series of promises laid out in the Declaration of Independence into a living Republic that continues to shine as a beacon of freedom and hope to people and nations around the world. \nThis multimedia presentation will offer a new perspective on the personality of the greatest American of all time! \n  \n\n

SUMMARY:Best Movies About Politics
DESCRIPTION:Live\, In Person\, And Open To The Public! \nPolitics and the movies are a match made in heaven! Movies need compelling characters\, suspenseful plots\, unexpected twists\, and a  great conclusion. Politics provides all the above and then some! In this remarkable new presentation\, Best Movies About Politics\, I’ll present my admittedly idiosyncratic list of the best films ever made about American politics. Some are dramas\, and some are comedies. Some are old classics\, and some are very modern. Some are well-known\, critically acclaimed Hollywood films and others are amazing but obscure! \nBest Movies About Politics\nThis fun\, fascinating\, and fast-moving presentation is one of my favorites\, combining my love of great cinema with a lifelong fascination with elections. And where else will you find a list that plausibly contains Henry Fonda\, Eddie Murphy\, Kirk Douglas\, George Clooney\, and Jimmy Stewart? From directors Frank Capra and Preston Sturges to Rob Reiner and screenwriters Aaron Sorkin to Rod Serling\, some of the most incredible talent in movie history have tackled the subject of elections in films that are entertaining\, thought-provoking\, and often unforgettable. We will look at clips from some of them and consider others! \nOf course\, we will leave time for discussion and your choices. Let’s see what everyone else chooses as the best movies about politics! \nBONUS! \nClick here to read about one of the films – I’ll bet this is a new one for you! \nREGISTRATION! \nThis event is live! Registration is required\, and there is a fee to attend. Please contact the nice sponsors\, and they will be glad to help you! \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:America's Greatest First Ladies
DESCRIPTION:Who were America’s Greatest First Ladies?\nNobody really knows! \nToday\, the press and public pay great attention to the President’s spouse.  However\, the role of the First Lady was not given so much as a moment’s thought by the Founding Fathers.  The title “First Lady” itself was not even widely used until the 1850s!  Nonetheless\, our First Ladies represent a fantastic array of accomplished women\, each with a unique story and a unique place in American History. \nI will list my top ten favorite First Ladies in this original series.  I promise that at least a couple of my choices will be women you would have never considered! \nOf course\, you know about the legacy of Eleanor Roosevelt.  But did you know that the lives of children\, women\, and pediatricians are made better every day in fundamental ways by the legacy of First Lady Harriet Lane?  Or that almost a century before Jackie Kennedy\, we had a younger First Lady who became an icon of style in the White House while raising adorable children?  (Click here to read about Frances Cleveland\, pictured on the magazine cover.) \nAlthough there are so many fascinating stories in this multimedia presentation!  It is not merely a collection of trivia.  Instead\, we will examine how the historical roles of women have changed from the days of the marvelous Martha Washington\, an enslaver\, to the modern Michelle Obama\, the descendant of enslaved people! \nREGISTRATION—This event is live and in person. The Lincolnwood Library hosts it\, and there is no charge for attending. Registration is required. \n  \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER!\n  \n
