SUMMARY:America's Purpose Statement: The Declaration Of Independence
DESCRIPTION:The most important sentence ever written by an American – a sentence that has inspired people in every part of the world – is found in America’s purpose statement! Click here to read more. The legacy of Washington\, Hancock\, Franklin\, Jefferson\, Adams\, Hamilton\, and Paul Revere still challenges us. \n \nOn a stifling July Thursday in 1776\, our Founding Fathers agreed to a completely unique document in the world’s history. Many revolutions had occurred over the centuries\, but never had one begun with a philosophical purpose statement. \nAlthough the Declaration of Independence has no legal power\, it has become the guiding beacon for what America strives to become. As the events of 2020 showed\, we as a nation are a world leader in human rights\, yet America is still a work in progress. \n \nWhy study the Declaration of Independence? It is the ultimate statement of what we hope to become. Freedom movements in the USA and worldwide have quoted it. \nYet many Americans know surprisingly little about it. In this exciting and thought-provoking multimedia presentation\, I will present the thrilling themes\, difficult negotiations\, contradictory\, complex\, charismatic personalities\, and exciting events leading to the most critical moment in American history. \n

SUMMARY:1975: Life in America 50 Years Ago
DESCRIPTION:Revisit 1975\, a year when America found itself at a crossroads. In the aftermath of Watergate\, the country was grappling with questions of trust and leadership\, while Vietnam veterans returned home to a divided nation. At the same time\, disco fever was taking over\, with songs like Gloria Gaynor’s Never Can Say Goodbye and KC and the Sunshine Band lighting up dance floors across the country. Two of the Three Stooges (Larry and Moe) died in the same year that Tiger Woods and Kate Winslet were born. \nIn the world of American popular culture\, 1975 saw the release of groundbreaking films like Jaws\, which became the first summer blockbuster\, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest\, a critical and commercial success. \nSaturday Night Live debuted on television\, changing comedy forever\, while Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run captured the hopes and frustrations of a generation. Consumer prices reflected the energy crisis\, with gas costing just 57 cents a gallon but often hard to come by due to shortages. \nThis dynamic program brings 1975 to life with a mix of visuals\, music\, and engaging stories that showcase the era’s highs and lows. Whether you’re nostalgic for bell-bottoms or curious about how the cultural shifts of the 1970s shaped America\, this presentation is a must-see. SUMMARY:Murrow vs. McCarthy
DESCRIPTION:In the dark shadow of the early 1950s\, Senator Joseph McCarthy wielded fear like a weapon\, accusing countless Americans of disloyalty with little or no evidence. Few dared to stand against him—until Edward R. Murrow stepped into the fight. In this gripping program\, we explore how Murrow used the young medium of television to challenge McCarthy’s reign of terror\, first through the story of Milo Radulovich\, a young man expelled from the Air Force Reserve without due process\, and then in a direct confrontation that shook the nation. \nMurrow vs. McCarthy: The Night Television Grew Up\nThrough powerful storytelling and historical footage\, we will examine how Murrow and his See It Now team meticulously exposed McCarthy’s tactics\, culminating in the landmark broadcast that many historians consider the night television came of age. Murrow’s steady voice and measured condemnation provided a rallying cry for those who believed in reason\, truth\, and the power of free speech. His actions not only helped curb McCarthy’s influence but also \reshaped the role of television news forever. \nOn March 9\, 1954\, Murrow delivered one of the most courageous broadcasts in American history. In a measured but devastating critique aired on See It Now\, Murrow exposed McCarthy’s tactics\, hypocrisy\, and the cost of silence. It was a moment when television proved it could do more than entertain — it could defend democracy itself. The broadcast electrified the public\, hastening McCarthy’s downfall and forever changing the relationship between journalism and power. \nJoin us for a fascinating look at this pivotal moment in American history. We’ll uncover the behind-the-scenes decisions that led to Murrow’s bold stand\, the national reaction to the broadcasts\, and the lasting impact on journalism and politics. Through Murrow’s example\, we will see how integrity\, courage\, and the responsible use of media can alter the course of a nation. \nREGISTRATION INFORMATION \nCOST\nThe program is available for a minimum contribution of $5.00\, which helps support my work and allows me to continue offering engaging content. \nPAYMENT OPTIONS \nCash/Check\nPayable to: Barry Bradford\nMail to:\nBarry Bradford\nP.O. SUMMARY:James Madison And James Monroe: Influential Founding Fathers
DESCRIPTION:Their names are similar; their life spans are almost identical and each was considered one of the most influential of the founding fathers. Yet despite their very different personalities\, philosophies\, and  achievements\, most Americans today would have a hard time distinguishing one from another. This despite the fact that one of them is the primary author of the Constitution (James Madison) and the other is one of the greatest heroes of the Battle of Trenton. (James Monroe)  each served as president of the United States and their presidencies were very different as well. \nWe will look at the far ranging influence of these two great men.  As their lives intersected with people like George Washington\, Thomas Jefferson\, Benjamin Franklin\, and John Adams\, each was to become  revered for their patriotism\, courage\, wisdom\, and enormous contributions to the growth of the new nation. \nPLEASE NOTE: This presentation is offered through the Deerfield Men’s Club and registration is required\,

SUMMARY:Adlai Stevenson
DESCRIPTION:Adlai Stevenson II was one of the most remarkable political figures of the second half of the 20th century. Although his entire career as an elected public official consisted of one term as the governor of Illinois. He ran unsuccessfully for president twice\, losing by a landslide each attempt. Yet\, so deep was his popularity and widespread his influence that the Democrats considered nominating him a third time for the presidency. It is exceedingly rare for a man trounced in a presidential election to get a second shot at the office. It is even rare for someone to have lost twice and still be considered one of the greatest stars in the history of his political party. Such is the influence of Adlai Stevenson. \nThis fascinating multimedia presentation will look at Stevenson’s roots in downstate Illinois as the son and grandson of important citizens of the state. Click here to read about one of the most unique stories in his young life – the time that Adlai Stevenson actually took the life of a young girl with a rifle. \nWe will follow Adlai Stenson’s government service through World War II and look at the personal qualities that led the Democrats to make him their standard bearer twice. We will conclude with a look at his inspiring and effective leadership as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations during the Cuban Missile Crisis. \nAdlai Stenson’s life story is inspiring and motivating while still challenging and complex. His wit\, wisdom\, and worldview make for an intriguing presentation.

SUMMARY:The Swinging\, Controversial Life Of Frank Sinatra - Part One
DESCRIPTION:  \nFrank Sinatra was one of the most charismatic and controversial American entertainers of all time. \nHe was one of a kind!  \nClick here to read about his impressive record on Civil Rights. \nIn this brand-new multimedia presentation\, I will trace the biography of Sinatra’s improbable life. We will look at his odd childhood as a skinny Italian street kid in working-class Hoboken\, New Jersey. His father was a prizefighter turned saloon keeper; his mother was a hard-drinking suffragette and political power in Hoboken who also made a living by performing abortions. We will look at Sinatra’s bumpy road to stardom. His career had so many ups and downs! Frank Sinatra seemed unstoppable from singing with the Harry James and Tommy Dorsey big bands to being the idol of the Bobby Sox brigades in the early 1940s. But when he avoided serving in World War II and musical tastes began to shift\, his career went into a steep decline that was only rescued by the help of the Mafia and his fantastic performance in the movie “From Here To Eternity.” \n \nThe rest of the Frank Sinatra story is equally fascinating. Swingin’ Sinatra\, the Rat Pack\, JFK\, Marilyn Monroe\,  and an abiding dedication to Israel and civil rights are part of the story. So are Lucky Luciano\, Sam Giancana\, Skinny D’Amato\, Jilly Rizzo and the Mafia. (Click here to read about how Peter Lawford connected Sinatra to JFK!)In this one-of-a-kind presentation filled with video clips\, amazing anecdotes\, and insightful analysis\, we will look at all sides of the one and only Chairman of the Board\, Frank Sinatra. \n

SUMMARY:2000: Life in America 25 Years Ago
DESCRIPTION:Travel back to the year 2000\, when America stood on the cusp of the 21st century. The dawn of the internet age was in full swing\, with AOL chatrooms\, Napster\, and the first major dot-com bubble shaping how people connected and consumed media. \nY2K fears loomed large\, but the new millennium arrived without the predicted chaos. Politically\, the nation witnessed one of the most contentious presidential elections in history\, as the Supreme Court ultimately decided the Bush-Gore race. \nAmong the famous people who left us in 2000 were Hedy Lamarr\, Steve Allen\, Walter Matthau\, and Charles Schulz. \n2000 was also a landmark year in American popular culture. On television\, Survivor revolutionized reality TV\, while Gladiator dominated the big screen\, winning the Academy Award for Best Picture. Meanwhile\, NSYNC and Britney Spears were at the peak of their pop stardom\, and the Nokia 3310 became the must-have cellphone of the year. \nConsumer goods reflected the digital shift\, as DVD players became increasingly popular\, and gas prices hovered around $1.56 per gallon. \nFast-moving\, nostalgic\, and packed with surprises\, this multimedia program offers a fresh perspective on the year 2000. Whether you remember the era vividly or want to learn what made it so pivotal\, this engaging presentation is the perfect way to reflect on the cultural and historical milestones that shaped the early 21st century. SUMMARY:1925: Life in America 100 Years Ago
DESCRIPTION:Step back to 1925\, the heart of the Roaring Twenties\, when jazz ruled the airwaves\, flappers danced the Charleston\, and speakeasies thrived under Prohibition. This was a year of cultural transformation\, as F. Scott Fitzgerald published The Great Gatsby\, revealing the glitz and pitfalls of the American Dream\, while  Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington brought jazz into the mainstream. On the political front\, Calvin Coolidge presided over a booming economy\, and innovation flourished with inventions like the first mechanical television. \n1925 was also a year of contrasts. While the Scopes Monkey Trial sparked a national debate on science versus religion\, the Harlem Renaissance was in full swing\, reshaping literature and the arts. In entertainment\, silent film stars like Charlie Chaplin\, Rudolph Valentino\, and Buster Keaton captivated audiences\, while the first New Yorker magazine hit newsstands\, offering a new perspective on culture and humor. Consumer prices\, such as 54 cents for a gallon of gas\, highlight the economic reality of the time. Dick Van Dyke\, Malcolm X\, Johnny Carson\, and Robert F Kennedy were all born during the amazing year of 1925. \nThis fast-moving multimedia program brings 1925 vividly to life with visuals\, music\, and storytelling. Perfect for history buffs and culture enthusiasts\, this presentation will immerse you in the dazzling highs and defining struggles of a year that forever shaped America. Sign up now and take a journey back to a time of innovation\, contradiction\, and unforgettable style. \n================================================== \n\n

SUMMARY:Looking Back - Looking Ahead - 2024 in Review/Predictions for 2025
DESCRIPTION:This is\, without question\, my most eagerly awaited program of the year returns! Last year\, this program sold out at every venue – so reserve your seats early! \nPerhaps it’s just the era we are in\, but this year seemed to be one of the most extraordinary of our lifetimes. We saw a significant war involving Israel\, the former president of the United States of America being found responsible for sexual assault and for fraud in separate courts while facing significant criminal charges in several venues\, the House of Representatives in utter chaos\, Chicago sports teams collapsing\, a major crisis of migrants at the southern border and in Chicago\, and a wild presidential election awaiting us. \nIn early December of each year\, I present a look back at the year coming to a close. I will list: \n√ Top Ten News Stories of 2024 \n√ Top Ten Quotes of 2024 \n√ Top Ten New Words of 2024 \n√ Important Deaths of 2024 \nPREDICTIONS!\nAnd then comes the part everyone enjoys – I will make ten specific predictions for 2024! Will Donald Trump be sent to prison? Will a solution be found for the migrant crisis or for inflation? What new breakthroughs will science and technology offer us in the coming year? \nAnd just so you can keep me honest\, I will show you precisely what I predicted for 2024. We will assess how correct – or not – I was in my predictions for this year!! \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:2024 Election Preview
DESCRIPTION:\SPECIAL NOTE: \nI will be offering this program to venues in person. However\, this one will be different. \nFirst\, it will be the night before the election\, so our information will be updated the most. \nSecondly\, the brilliant Political Scientist Kelly Jones-Wagy will join me for this fantastic presentation and answer your questions live!! \nThird\, I am adding thirty minutes (as needed) to our running time to accommodate breaking news and your questions. \nThis program costs $10.00\, as I have to pay Kelly for her time and professional expertise. \nThe Presidential election of 2024 promises to be one of the most unusual and consequential elections in American history. With former President Trump on trial in numerous jurisdictions\, facing serious accusations of undermining our democracy\, and having survived an assassination attempt as both he and President Biden face serious questions about their mental fitness\, this election challenges all our preconceptions. \nWith control of the Senate and House expected to be closely contested\, this election may drastically alter the contours of American norms. \n  \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $10.00. If you cannot afford it or feel this program is not worth $10.00\, you are invited to come for 5.00\, all of which will go to our special guest. I understand compassionate living on a tight budget! \nCash/Check Payable to Barry Bradford \nBarry Bradford \nP.O.
