SUMMARY:The King And I
DESCRIPTION:“The King and I ” is one of the most beloved musicals of all time. The gorgeous music\, sumptuous sets\, phenomenal costumes\, and a fascinating storyline all combine to make The King and I a musical that has had decades of popularity on the Broadway stage and as a major movie musical. The most recent Broadway revival\, stage to perfection by Lincoln Center and pictured above\, was a critical and popular smash. It won the Tony Award for Best Revival Of A Musical. This is the revival that is coming to the Broadway in Chicago series. \nIn this unique\, brand new multimedia presentation\, we will look at the true story behind “The King and I.”  There actually was a British schoolteacher named Anna Owens who went to Siam (as it was then called) in the mid-1800s to teach the children of the King.  As you will see\, the Broadway and Hollywood musical versions take great liberties with the true story. While we love the music\, costumes\, songs\, and sets\, “The King and I” is actually banned and despised throughout Thailand today! We will look at all of that and so much more\, including clips from all the different movie versions of the story. This is a presentation you simply will not want to miss! \nWe will trace the Broadway productions\, featuring the glorious revival which appeared at Broadway in Chicago. \nBonus!!!!  Click here to read about the real-life Anna! \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. SUMMARY:The History Of ABC
DESCRIPTION:The youngest of the big three broadcasting networks\, the American Broadcasting Company (ABC)\, began as an offshoot of NBC and was for decades mired in third place in the ratings. That began to change when Walt Disney stepped in. Disney helped popularize color broadcasting and led to the development of a new identity for ABC. Nonetheless\, it was not until the 1970s\, with the introduction of young-skewing\, sitcoms that it was entirely clear that ABC would survive!\n \nEventually developing a more youth-oriented schedule\, ABC carved out a special and popular identity of its own. While today the network is primarily known for its endless parade of ‘reality’ shows (“The Bachelor\, “Extreme Makeover\,” “Dancing With The Stars”) and recycled game shows (“The Match Game\,” “Supermarket Sweep\,” Card Sharks)\, ABC is also the network that brought innovations like “Whose Line Is It Anyway\,” Monday Night. Football\, “Roots” and “The Fugitive\,” as well as 20/20 and Barbara Walters’\, mesmerizing interviews.\n \n\nJoin us for this fun and fascinating multimedia look at a giant of American Broadcasting!

SUMMARY:Medgar Evers: Is It Ever Too Late To Do The Right Thing?
DESCRIPTION:Medgar Evers Is My Hero.\nMedgar Evers\, a brave Civil Rights leader\, was assassinated in the driveway of his home\, murdered by a Ku Klax Klan leader bent on blood. \nWhat offense had Medgar Evers committed? He was trying to register African Americans to vote in Mississippi in 1963. \nHis murderer was quickly identified – but lived as a free man for thirty years until an unstoppable wife\, a dogged newspaperman\, and a brilliant prosecutor managed to get the case reopened.  On the fortieth anniversary of the murder\, I hosted the official National Day Of Remembrance and had the chance to meet and befriend his widow\, his family\, and many of his friends. I will bring their tremendously moving personal stories to life. \nMyrlie Evers hugs Barry Bradford students. \nThis multimedia presentation is very personal to me. You will be amazed – it is jam-packed with inside information on the thrilling trial\, amazing anecdotes\, and a heavy dose of drama.  An emotional turning point in American law and history will come alive as you witness whether it is ever too late to do the right thing. \nREGISTRATION \nALL registration MUST be done in advance. SUMMARY:Carousel and Cinderella - Rodgers And Hammerstein
DESCRIPTION:Carousel and Cinderella – Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classics – are very different\, yet each is influentially popular and often revived today. \nIn 1945\, “Carousel”; was the second great hit for the team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. The nostalgic\, sentimental\, and emotional story has brought audiences to tears ever since it premiered. It has brought audiences to tears ever since it premiered. The song” “You’ll never Walk Alone” is one of the most emotionally evocative songs ever written in any contacts. We will look at the development of this great Broadway musical and see how Rodgers and Hammerstein’s artistry lifted a somewhat mawkish story to great heights of Broadway magic. \nRodgers and Hammerstein’s lovely musical\, “Cinderella” was the first major musical written directly for television. Despite the extremely limited production facilities and technology available back in 1957\, the show was brilliant! Starring Julie Andrews\, producing many hit songs\, and inspiring several televised revivals\, “Cinderella” is often overlooked as one of the great Rodgers and Hammerstein classics. The show is such unforgettable work of art that it was even produced as a full Broadway musical\, to great critical acclaim\, in 2013. Remarkably\, that is almost half a century after “Cindarella” first appeared on television! \nJoin us for this fun and fast-moving multimedia presentation! \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. SUMMARY:Cole Porter - Risque Master Of American Music
DESCRIPTION:Cole Porter is one of the greatest songwriters in American history. His melodies were sublime. His lyrics were creative\, witty\, sophisticated\, original\, and naughty. Cole Porter was the ultimate European oriented sophisticate – yet he was born in tiny Peru\, Indiana! \nPorter’s list of songs includes some of the most incredible entries in the great American Songbook!  Consider: \nLET’S DO IT (LET’S FALL IN LOVE) (1928) \n NIGHT AND DAY (1932) \nANYTHING GOES (1934) \n DON’T FENCE ME IN (1934) \nI GET A KICK OUT OF YOU (1934) \nBEGIN THE BEGUINE (1935) \n I’VE GOT YOU UNDER MY SKIN (1936) \nIT’S DE-LOVELY (1936) \nPorter’s legacy was further assured by brilliant Broadway shows like “Kiss Me Kate” and “Can-Can.” But beneath the surface of this bon-vivant lay a tortured soul. Cole Porter lived in both psychic and physical pain much of his life. His life story\, his personality\, and his unforgettable music combine for a memorable multimedia presentation! \nThis presentation is not open to the general public.

SUMMARY:Carl Reiner
DESCRIPTION:Carl Reiner is one of the funniest men ever to appear in – or write for – or direct an episode of TV! \nAt 97\, he is currently the oldest celebrity active on Twitter – and he is not even contemplating retiring from show business! Join me for a fast\, funny\, and fascinating look at one of America’s classic comic treasures\, Mr. Carl Reiner \nCarl Reiner first exploded into the American consciousness as the straight man on the immortal Sid Caesar’s great TV shows. \nWorking alongside writing legends including Mel Brooks\, Woody Allen\, Neil Simon\, Selma Diamond\, and Larry Gelbart\, Carl Reiner became one of the volatile Caesar’s favorite co-stars and most trusted writers. \nTheir classic “Professor” sketches are still hilarious sixty-five years after they first aired. And his lifelong friendship and collaboration with Mel Brooks began as a result! \nAfter the Sid Caesar shows ended\, Carl Reiner created The DIck Van Dyke Show. This program would prove to be one of the most influential\, funniest\, and most transformative situation comedies of all time.  \nAfter Reiner and Van Dyke ended the show at the height of its popularity\, the brilliant writer/producer/director began working in feature films.  \nCarl Reiner created the cult classics “Where’s Poppa” and “Oh\, God” before embarking on a brilliant partnership with Steve Martin. The Reiner/Martin films include some of the best comedies of Steve Martin’s career\, including “The Jerk\,” “All Of Me\,” and “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. \nWe’ll enjoy clips and stories from all of this – and\, of course – the brilliant “2\,000 Year Old Man” routines with Mel Brooks. Don’t miss this great presentation!

SUMMARY:The History Of Presidential Impeachment
DESCRIPTION:James Madison and the Founding Fathers were deeply concerned about what would\nhappen if a president lost his moral bearing and committed crimes while serving as chief executive of the land. Their concern led them to include impeachment in the Constitution as a necessary remedy for Congress to remove a corrupt president. The history of presidential impeachment is fascinating and instructive. In this multimedia presentation\, we will look at each of the four presidential impeachments. In this multimedia presentation\, we will look at each of the four presidential impeachments that went to trial. \nFirst\, we will look at why first we will look at why the 1868 Republican House Of Representatives impeached Democrat Andrew Johnson for willfully and blatantly violating a law\, the hotly contested Tenure of Office Act. \nNext\, we will examine why the 1998 Republican House Of Representatives impeached Democratic President Bill Clinton for lying under oath tour grand jury after a sex scandal. \nFinally\, we will look at the two impeachment trials of Donald Trump. As the only President to be impeached a second time (no one else came close)\, we learned about impeachment during his two trials will have significant ramifications for the future. \n\nThe first\, a mostly partisan matter\, centered on alleged corruption in the Presidents dealing with a foreign power to win an election. Although impeached by a Democratic House Of Representatives\, Trump became the first President ever to have a member of his party vote for his conviction\, The second impeachment of Pres. Trump was the most bipartisan in history. The second impeachment of Pres. Trump was the most bipartisan in history. It’s stemmed from his actions when. It’s derived from his actions when domestic terrorists invaded the capital building in Washington\, DC. \nYou won’t want to miss this multimedia presentation! \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. SUMMARY:Rita Hayworth - American Royalty
DESCRIPTION:Rita Hayworth – American Royalty\nThe pin-up photo of Rita Hayworth hung above the bunks of World War II American soldiers\, airmen and sailors\, and airmen all over the world. She was called “The Love Goddess\,” and Fred Astaire declared her his best dance partner. In the 1940s\, Rita Hayworth was one of the most popular movie stars of her time. \nAt the height of her fame\, she married two of the most famous men in the world. First\, she accepted a proposal from the brilliant Orson Welles. They seemed like the ultimate Hollywood glamour/power couple. After that marriage failed\, “The Love Goddess was wooed and pursued by one of the world’s wealthiest and most famous princes: the fabled Aly Khan. \nThe marriage of Hollywood’s sexiest movie star and the handsome\, glamorous Muslim playboy\, socialite\, womanizer\, racehorse owner\, and jockey was a source of endless fascination. It ended unhappily\, with offers of bribes\, threats of kidnapping\, and back-and-forth rancor in newspapers worldwide. \nRita Hayworth returned to film\, but her career evaporated in a haze of alcoholism and strange personality swings. The latter was finally diagnosed as the little-known malady called Alzheimer’s Disease. \nIn this multimedia presentation\, we will celebrate the terrific talent of Rita Hayworth as seen in her classic movies. SUMMARY:South Pacific - A Multimedia Presentation on South Pacific
DESCRIPTION:South Pacific is one of the greatest works of musical theater ever created. Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s masterpiece combines a unique and fascinating story of American nurses and GI on a remote island during World War II with an unforgettable score and powerful lyrics. Add in lavish costumes\, a beautiful set\, and fabulous staging\, and something unforgettable evolves right in front of the audience’s eyes. This multimedia presentation on South Pacific will help you more fully appreciate this work of genius. \nHowever\, South Pacific is more than just an outstanding musical. The story is powerful as it launches a broadside against racism in America. Like Hamilton\, this is a work of genius that transcends musical theater expectations and attempts to influence the country’s political discussion. South Pacific is romantic\, suspenseful\, and often very funny. At its core\, this was a personal statement against racism and prejudice by its extraordinary creators. Click here to read why this story was personal for Oscar Hammerstein II. Two different characters\, both white Americans\, realize that their love for non-white Asian people dooms any chance of returning to a bigoted America in the 1940s. Beloved by critics and the audience\, the show was nonetheless divisive and controversial with some conservatives! This multimedia presentation on South Pacific will reveal its authors’ motivations and intent. \nThis multimedia presentation traces South Pacific’s backstory\, beginning with author John O’Hara’s wartime experiences and brilliant book of short stories that became the basis for the musical. \nWe will look at excerpts from the stage musical and film versions to explore the history and impact of a Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece of the Broadway stage. Come for the music and stay for the amazing story! \n

SUMMARY:Sidney Poitier
DESCRIPTION:Sidney Poitier is\, without question\, one of the greatest actors in the history of American film. \nAdditionally\, Sidney Poitier is the man who broke the color barrier in Hollywood. Like Barack Obama or Jackie Robinson\, he was more than just a symbol. He was a man of great talent\, skill and accomplishment. His success was not only his\, but a reminder of how America had squelched the talents of so many talented citizens.  \nMany fans of the “Golden Era” of “classic films” – including myself – have had to come to grips with the racist\, segregationist nature of those movies. Judy Garland\, Fred Astaire and Cary Grant were great actors and their films remain wildly enjoyable. But look at the films as a whole and you will see the leading roles are all played by white actors. Black actors appear as slaves\, domestics\, field hands\, or drivers. As great as Garland\, Astaire and Grant were\, it’s important to remember they were given opportunities denied to Lena Horne\, the Nicholas Brothers or any black man before Sidney Poitier. The racism of classic Hollywood denied us from appreciating some great talent. Just as the quality of baseball became better when it integrated\, so did movies improve after Sidney Poitier helped open the door. A society is stronger when all its citizens can participate. \nHowever\, his career should not be seen only as historic and groundbreaking. He was a great actor! Sidney Poitier\, in his best roles\, was simply magnificent. \nWatch “The Defiant Ones\,” “Blackboard Jungle\,” “Lillies Of The Field\,” “In The Heat Of The Night\,” “To Sir\, With Love\,” and “A Patch Of Blue” and you see a great actor at the top of his game. You can even see him in a movie with Dan Aykroyd! Poitier could be as suave as Cary Grant\, as intense as Humphrey Bogart\, as relatable as Jimmy Stewart. And unlike those other great actors\, Sidney Poitier went on to have a fabulous director of money making movies! \nJoin us for a fascinating multimedia look at the life and career of the great Sidney Poitier! \n

SUMMARY:Watergate Part Two
DESCRIPTION:History Vs. The Movies: Watergate \nWatergate Part Two \nWatergate was the largest and most frightening presidential scandal.  In this two-part multimedia presentation\, we will look at the roots of the crime and Richard Nixon’s Administration’s desperate attempts to cover it up. Featured will be the process of unraveled by journalists\, a judge\, and Congress. We will examine Woodward and Bernstein’s role\, as told in two films\, in the efforts to uncover the truth.
