DESCRIPTION:Bob Newhart turned 92 on September 5\, 2021. He is a living legend and widely regarded as one of the nicest men in Hollywood history. \nTwo of his sitcoms became iconic and his appearances on the Tonight Show were legendary. His standup routine influenced a generation of comics. In fact\, his Abraham Lincoln Talks To A Public Relations Man” bit was so influential that it became a major plot point on the hit TV show “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” And in the early 1960s\, his comedy albums set sales records the redefine the medium \nSo how did a soft-spoken\, mild-mannered\, somewhat nerdy accountant from Chicago become one of the most beloved stars in American history? You won’t want to miss this fascinating and insightful multimedia appreciation of the great Bob Newhart! \n

SUMMARY:George C Marshall – The Most Underrated American Hero
DESCRIPTION:George C Marshall – The Most Underrated American Hero\nHe was a soldier who won the Nobel Peace Prize. A man of such great humility that he refused to say yes when he was offered the job he most wanted. His leadership and vision were crucial to American victories in World War I and his guidance and wisdom was absolutely essential the United States winning the Second World War. After the war\, his amazing managerial skill and deep compassionate instinct helped to save the lives of millions of Europeans and build long-lasting alliances that would help make the world safer for America. Although he lacked panache of Douglas MacArthur or George Patton and was not a visible symbol of the USA like Eisenhower\,  George C Marshall – the most underrated American hero – was indispensable to Pres. Roosevelt and the world. \nWhile his record is not perfect\, his leadership of the American military during World War II and his brilliant rescue of Europe (“The Marshall Plan”) were successful beyond belief.  Each had long ranging impacts on the future.  Marshall was a man of great integrity.  His gift of clarity and his decisiveness helped shape a better world for Americans.  His integrity impressed Presidents.  His compassion saved millions from starvation  Harry Truman saw him as the greatest American.  Churchill agreed.  And history recognizes this soldier/statesman as one of the most important – if underrated – men of American history.

SUMMARY:TV In The 1970s
DESCRIPTION:TV IN THE 1970s \nWhat was television like in the 1970s? \nIt was the decade of Roots and the decade of The Love Boat. Silly television comedies were everywhere! The 1970s was the decade of Laverne & Shirley\, The Fonz\, Mork and Mindy\, WKRP\, Three’s Company\, and both The Brady Bunch and the Partridge Family.  \nDramas became very formulaic and for the most part fairly bland. But Norman Lear created All in the Family a groundbreaking comedy that led to a national debate about racism\, conservatism\, homophobia\, abortion\, mental illness\, and almost every important social issue of the time. And they did so in a way that was so funny that the show was the top-ranked show on television for a record five consecutive years. As Archie Bunker became the voice of  Richard Nixon’s “Silent Majority” other topical comedies such as Chico and the Man\, The Jeffersons\, Sanford and Son\, Maude\, and Good Times began to change the face of what television situation comedies would look like. \nPerhaps no one changed the role of women on television more than Mary Tyler Moore.  Her program broke ground with a monumentally popular view of a single working woman in a professional career.   \nFinally\, M*A*S*H   captivated America with his unique and unforgettable combination of drama\, comedy\, politics\, and personality set against the backdrop of the Korean War but really opening a discussion about what had happened in Vietnam. \n  \nThis fast-moving multimedia presentation is more than just nostalgic. It’s also an insightful look at what we were watching and why we were watching it at that particular moment in time. The 1970s were a unique decade and television both reflected and shaped the way we live. \n

SUMMARY:South Pacific - A Multimedia Presentation on South Pacific
DESCRIPTION:South Pacific is one of the greatest works of musical theater ever created. Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s masterpiece combines a unique and fascinating story of American nurses and GI on a remote island during World War II with an unforgettable score and powerful lyrics. Add in lavish costumes\, a beautiful set\, and fabulous staging\, and something unforgettable evolves right in front of the audience’s eyes. This multimedia presentation on South Pacific will help you more fully appreciate this work of genius. \nHowever\, South Pacific is more than just an outstanding musical. The story is powerful as it launches a broadside against racism in America. Like Hamilton\, this is a work of genius that transcends musical theater expectations and attempts to influence the country’s political discussion. South Pacific is romantic\, suspenseful\, and often very funny. At its core\, this was a personal statement against racism and prejudice by its extraordinary creators. Click here to read why this story was personal for Oscar Hammerstein II. Two different characters\, both white Americans\, realize that their love for non-white Asian people dooms any chance of returning to a bigoted America in the 1940s. Beloved by critics and the audience\, the show was nonetheless divisive and controversial with some conservatives! This multimedia presentation on South Pacific will reveal its authors’ motivations and intent. \nThis multimedia presentation traces South Pacific’s backstory\, beginning with author John O’Hara’s wartime experiences and brilliant book of short stories that became the basis for the musical. \nWe will look at excerpts from the stage musical and film versions to explore the history and impact of a Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece of the Broadway stage. Come for the music and stay for the amazing story! \n

SUMMARY:Gregory Peck
DESCRIPTION:If your mental picture of Gregory Peck is that of a straight-shooting\, honest\, compassionate\, masculine but sensitive man who would always have your back and always stand up for the underdog\, you’d be very close to the truth!  While far from being a perfect man\, Gregory Peck was a good man who was deeply admired within the industry and beloved by fans. When President Nixon put the liberal Democrat Gregory Peck and his so-called “enemies list\,” Peck Ward as a badge of honor. Peck was also given a true badge of honor when President Lyndon B. Johnson awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. \nAs we talk about the films of Gregory Peck\, of course\, your mind will leap to his iconic portrayal of Atticus Finch in “To Kill a Mockingbird.” However\, Park made almost 60 films beginning in 1944 with “Days Of Glory” and concluding in 1991 with the fabulous “Other Peoples Money.” Among his great classics are “Roman Holiday\,” “The Guns of Navarone\,” “Spellbound\,” “Moby Dick\,” and Gentleman’s AGreement.” \nYou may be surprised to find that Gregory Peck was also a very committed liberal activist. He stood in favor of the Civil Rights Movement and stood against Joe McCarthy\, the war in Vietnam\, and raised money to defeat segregationist candidates in major political races. His life makes for a fascinating multimedia presentation that you will not want to miss!

SUMMARY:Natalie Wood
DESCRIPTION:Natalie Wood was one of the most popular and glamorous actresses of the 1950s and 60s. She starred in numerous classic films including\, “Miracle on 34th St.” “Rebel Without a Cause\,” “West Side Story\,” “Gypsy\,” “Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice\,” “Splendor in the Grass\,” “Sex and the Single Girl\,” & “The Great Race.” Her stunning looks\, popular performances\, and her marriages and romances made her a staple on magazine covers for 20 years. \nShe’s one of the few performers to have a significant career as a child\, teenager\, and adult. Although critics were often less than impressed by her acting ability\, she set a record by becoming only the second actress to receive three Academy Awards before she turned 25 years old! (Jennifer Lawrence and Sairose Ronan have since bested that record.) \nWhen Natalie Wood was only 43\, a mother of two\, with a great career in films and television potentially still ahead\, she died under mysterious – possibly criminal – circumstances in the Pacific Ocean. \nThis fascinating multimedia public speaking presentation will explore her troubled life\, fabulous career\, and the mysterious death of Natalie Wood.

SUMMARY:Thinking Like Lincoln (AM)
DESCRIPTION:LAST PRESENTED TO THE PUBLIC: September 27\, 2018 \nLearn to think like Lincoln!  \nAbraham Lincoln was one of the most unique\, creative\, and imaginative men ever to be president. His unique and unorthodox method of thinking\, interacting and relating not only allowed him to be our greatest president\, but it can inspire individuals\, groups\, and organizations to think differently\, work better\, and achieve great results. \nIn this nationally acclaimed presentation that combines history and motivation\, I show how Lincoln’s “out-of-the-box thinking” led him from the depth of obscurity to the height of national importance. SUMMARY:M*A*S*H
DESCRIPTION:M*A*S*H is one of the most important\, influential\, and intriguing television series of all time. \nM*A*S*H was set during the Korean War.\, However\, the creators of M*A*S*H intended to make a statement about the ongoing war in Vietnam and war in general. When it finally left the air after 11\, M*A*S*H had won a slew of Emmys\, numerous other awards and was recognized already as one of the classic television series ever broadcast. \nThis is not a nostalgia program. Although we will watch some fabulous multimedia clips from the show\, our focus will be on how the show was created\, how M*A*S*H evolved\, and how the series influenced television and society.

SUMMARY:Carl Reiner
DESCRIPTION:Carl Reiner was one of the funniest men ever to appear in – or write for – or direct an episode of TV! \nAt 97\, he was the oldest celebrity active on Twitter – and never contemplating retiring from show business! Join me for a fast\, funny\, and fascinating look at one of America’s classic comic treasures\, Mr. Carl Reiner \nCarl Reiner first exploded into the American consciousness as the straight man on the immortal Sid Caesar’s great TV shows. \nWorking alongside writing legends including Mel Brooks\, Woody Allen\, Neil Simon\, Selma Diamond\, and Larry Gelbart\, Carl Reiner became one of the volatile Caesar’s favorite co-stars and most trusted writers. \nTheir classic “Professor” sketches are still hilarious sixty-five years after they first aired. And his lifelong friendship and collaboration with Mel Brooks began as a result! \nAfter the Sid Caesar shows ended\, Carl Reiner created The DIck Van Dyke Show. This program would prove to be one of the most influential\, funniest\, and most transformative situation comedies of all time.  \nAfter Reiner and Van Dyke ended the show at the height of its popularity\, the brilliant writer/producer/director began working in feature films.  \nCarl Reiner created the cult classics “Where’s Poppa” and “Oh\, God” before embarking on a brilliant partnership with Steve Martin. The Reiner/Martin films include some of the best comedies of Steve Martin’s career\, including “The Jerk\,” “All Of Me\,” and “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. \nWe’ll enjoy clips and stories from all of this – and\, of course – the brilliant “2\,000 Year Old Man” routines with Mel Brooks. Don’t miss this great presentation!

SUMMARY:1972 - America 50 Years Ago
DESCRIPTION:Our time capsule lands 50 years ago in the tumultuous year of 1972. As the Vietnam war dragged on\, the battles between Archie Bunker and his son-in-law\, ‘Meathead Mike’ Stivic accurately reflected the deep divisions in 1972 America. ‘All In The Family’  Nixon went to Russia and to China and then won overwhelming reelection in the shadow of the just emerging story of Watergate. \n1972 brought us great films\, a terrorist massacre at the Olympics\, rising wages\, and a changing style of TV.  Jackie Robinson and Harry Truman died while Dwayne Johnson and when is Paltrow were born. Mark Spitz and Olga Korbut became sports legends and don McLean anthem “American Pie” shut off the charts. You will be amazed at what a fascinating year 1972 words!

SUMMARY:Betty White: America's Favorite Potty Mouthed Grandma
DESCRIPTION:The fabulous Betty White has been called an American national treasure – and rightly so! Up until her death at 99\, Betty White was a beacon of positivity even in difficult years! Witty\, working\, and happy\, Betty white it’s a beacon of positivity even in difficult times! \nYear in and year out\, Betty White was voted one of America’s most beloved entertainers.  In 2018\, she was chosen as the most trusted person in America! You know her as the seemingly sweet we but secretly scheming sexpot Sue Anne Nivens on the iconic  “Mary Tyler Moore Show\,” the naïve and trusting Rose Nyland on the classic  “Golden Girls\,” and the outrageous and somewhat loopy Elka Ostrovsky on ” Hot in Cleveland.” Betty White has been a staple on talk shows\, a host and panelist on game shows\, and has even performed in some popular movies\, including one classic film drama about politics in which she played a U.S. Senator! \nYou may not know that Betty White was a pioneer in the early days of television\, being the first woman to produce her own show!  The amazing Ms. White is a best-selling author and tireless advocate for animals. Most importantly\, she is widely considered one of the nicest people in all show business. This warm\, charming and funny presentation is loaded with hilarious video clips and great stories about the one and only Betty White. \n
