SUMMARY:Bob Newhart
DESCRIPTION:Bob Newhart turned 92 on September 5\, 2021. He is a living legend and widely regarded as one of the nicest men in Hollywood history. \nTwo of his sitcoms became iconic and his appearances on the Tonight Show were legendary. His standup routine influenced a generation of comics. In fact\, his “Abraham Lincoln Talks To A Public Relations Man” bit was so influential that it became a major plot point on the hit TV show “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” And in the early 1960s\, his comedy albums set sales records the redefine the medium \nSo how did a soft-spoken\, mild-mannered\, somewhat nerdy accountant from Chicago become one of the most beloved stars in American history? You won’t want to miss this fascinating and insightful multimedia appreciation of the great Bob Newhart! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Harry Belafonte
DESCRIPTION:This has become one of my favorite new programs. And it is certainly one of the most surprising programs I have ever researched! \n\nWhen I began my research\, I thought I would be talking about a popular entertainer from the 1950s who introduced calypso music to America. \nAs I dug deeper\, I quickly realized that Harry Belafonte was one of the most important and influential leaders of the civil rights movement. In early  1968\, Johnny Carson turned over the Tonight Show to Harry Belafonte for an entire week! The “sit-in” as it was called\, featured Belafonte interviewing guests including Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King! \nYou’ll find out that Harry Belafonte was one of Martin Luther King’s closest friends and most trusted advisers\, deeply involved in the civil rights movement at every turn. \nSo what are you prefer my “straight history” presentations or my popular culture presentations\, this one is for you! \nThis makes for a completely unique multimedia presentation. \nWe will watch fabulous clips of Harry Belafonte performing spectacular calypso numbers –  and we will also hear him criticize Barack Obama for not doing enough to help African-Americans! \nI urge you to sign up for this program. There is no other entertainer or activist who combines the unique characteristics\, charismatic personality\, and thoughtful philosophy of Harry Belafonte! \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. If you cannot afford it or feel my programs are not worth $5.00\, you are invited to come for free; I am struggling but supporting a family\, so I understand with compassion living on a tight budget! \nCash/Check Payable to Barry Bradford \nBarry Bradford \nP.O. SUMMARY:Walter Cronkite: And That's The Way It Is
DESCRIPTION:2016 marks the 100th birthday of Walter Cronkite. In an era when the “mainstream media” is a convenient whipping boy for any politician upset by unfavorable coverage\, it is hard to imagine that at one time a network news anchorman was voted “the most trusted man in America.”  How times have changed! \nWalter Cronkite was one of the most widely read news reporters covering World War II.  Cronkite’s reporting on the war was read by millions of Americans and he was highly respected for his clear concise prose and great ability to explain complex events. After the end of the Second World War\, he came back and worked for CBS news. \nAlthough never one of Edward R Murrow’s “boys\,”  Cronkite quickly built a sterling reputation at CBS for superb reporting\, insightful analysis\, and calm\, steady work at the anchor booth.   When the network decided to go to a 30 minute nightly national newscast\, Walter Cronkite was the logical choice to be the anchorman. He was the man America turned to to learn about the space program\, political conventions\, elections\, Vietnam\, and\, most memorably\, the murder of Pres. John F. Kennedy. \nPlease join us for a fascinating and memorable multimedia presentation looking at the life and career of one of the most respected American broadcast journalists of all time. \n Please Note: There is a fee to attend this program and registration is required\, but easy. Please contact the venue for more information. \n

SUMMARY:Suffrage: The Battle For Women's Rights To Vote
DESCRIPTION:They were called the “Soldiers In Petticoats\,” “Iron Jawed Angels” and “Suffragettes.” After a battle that spanned the 18th and 20th centuries\, generations of brilliant\, determined women fought for the right to vote. \n2020 marked the 100th anniversary of American women being granted the Constitutional right to vote. The history of women voting is important\, but little-known\, crusade for civil rights in America. \nThe struggle was long\, arduous\, and dangerous. Although many Americans know the name of Susan B. Anthony (click here to read how she was arrested for voting!) most are unfamiliar with the long list of brave women who led the 150-year-old movement!

SUMMARY:The Doolittle Raid At 80 - Flying Into Greatness
DESCRIPTION:The Doolittle Raid: America Fights Back\n \nAfter the deadly surprise attack on Pearl Harbor\, the USA wanted. Pres. Roosevelt knew that it would inevitably be a long war when we took on the forces of the Japanese Army and Navy. Our forces were insufficient before the devastating attack on Hawaii.  nonetheless\, FDR wanted to send a strong\, clear\, and unmistakable message to the Japanese: the United States WOULD fight back. \n An Unexpected Plan\nCol. Jimmy Doolittle volunteered to lead a group of raiders on one of the most audacious attacks of all time. The plan was to drop bombs on Tokyo in the middle of the daytime. The Japanese people have been told that their island was invulnerable to an outside attack. If the Doolittle Raiders were successful\, their attack would be a shattering blow to the Japanese psyche. The only problem was that there was no practical way for American planes to attack the Japanese mainland. But utilizing American ingenuity\, full support of Pres. Roosevelt and Gen. George C Marshall\, and with sheer bravado\, the Doolittle Raiders flew into greatness. Despite the myth that the Doolittle Raid was just a “psychological victory\,” the truth is that the raid changed the direction of the war! \nThe heart-stopping story of the Doolittle Raid offered by a master storyteller makes for an unforgettable presentation! \nTHE PRESENTATION IS FREE AND IN-PERSON ONLY! No registration is required!\n

SUMMARY:Deaths And Near Deaths Of The Presidents
DESCRIPTION:The assassination of John F. Kennedy shocked the nation. As the mortally wounded President was rushed to Parkland Hospital\, surgeons scrambled to try and save him. When the patient is the President\, the whole nation is watching every move of the doctors. Since that fateful day in November 1963\, every medical team’s choice\, action\, and report has been scrutinized and second-guessed by professionals and laypeople alike. As a result of the historical Monday morning quarterbacking of the public\, every medical treatment of every President since has been reported in minute detail! \nThis unique and fast-paced multimedia presentation will have you enthralled as we watch doctors desperately work to save the lives of Presidents Lincoln\, Garfield\, and Reagan after assassins shot them. We will also look at how physicians handled other Presidential health crises (or mishandled). \nFor instance\, President John Tyler might well have lived had his doctors simply done nothing at all! His wife and doctor kept Woodrow Wilson’s crippling stroke secret from the public\, the media\, and even Congress by his doctor. We will look at what was done\, what wasn’t done\, and whether medicine today might have changed the diagnosis\, treatment\, or outcome! \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. SUMMARY:Betty White: America's Favorite Potty Mouthed Grandma
DESCRIPTION:The fabulous Betty White has been called an American national treasure – and rightly so! Up until her death at 99\, Betty White was a beacon of positivity even in the most difficult years! Witty\, working\, and happy\, Betty White was beloved by Americans of every age\, race\, and gender.! \nYear in and year out\, Betty White was voted one of America’s most beloved entertainers.  In 2018\, she was chosen as the most trusted person in America! You know her as the seemingly sweet we but secretly scheming sexpot Sue Anne Nivens on the iconic  “Mary Tyler Moore Show\,” the naïve and trusting Rose Nyland on the classic  “Golden Girls\,” and the outrageous and somewhat loopy Elka Ostrovsky on ” Hot in Cleveland.” Betty White has been a staple on talk shows\, a host and panelist on game shows\, and has even performed in some popular movies\, including one classic film drama about politics in which she played a U.S. Senator! \nYou may not know that Betty White was a pioneer in the early days of television\, being the first woman to produce her own show!  The amazing Ms. White is a best-selling author and tireless advocate for animals. Most importantly\, she is widely considered one of the nicest people in all show business. This warm\, charming and funny presentation is loaded with hilarious video clips and great stories about the one and only Betty White. \nCLICK HERE FOR FREE REGISTRATION! \n

SUMMARY:Our First First Ladies
DESCRIPTION:The Founding Father never gave a moment’s thought to the role of the President wife. In fact\, the term “First Lay” itself would be unknown for fifty years! \nNonetheless\, the first women to hold the title of “First Lady”  were in amazing group of strong and dedicated women! Martha Washington\, Abigail Adams and Dolley Madison\, in particular\, were vastly influential in ways the country did not yet recognize. They were very different one from another and each added something unique and wonderful to the national experience. SUMMARY:TV By The Decades: Television in the 1960s
DESCRIPTION:TV in the 1960s\nThe 1960s were definitely one of TV’s oddest decades! The 1960s began with Westerns dominating the ratings! The old West soap opera Bonanza became the most popular show on the air. One after another competing show was vanquished by the old-time sensibilities of an old-fashioned Western. \nAll you really need to know about the diverse nature of TV in the 1960s is found in the answer to the question: “What show finally was able to compete with Bonanza in the ratings?” The answer was a liberal\, modern\, and very controversial challenger: The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. This bastion of the hip\, cutting edge liberal comedy gave young viewers quite a stark alternative to the Ponderosa! (Trivia! Bonanza\, like Dragnet\, had their stars wear the exact same clothes every week. It saved money on costumes and allowed the producers to reuse old shots from previous episodes! \nSo the 1960s were the era of Gunsmoke and Wagon Train\, Gilligan’s Island and The Beverly Hillbillies and Laugh-In and The Smothers Brothers! We will talk about how TV grew and changed as viewers who had enjoyed Combat began tuning in to Hogan’s Heroes. You won’t want to miss this fast-paced multimedia presentation! \nIN THE COMMENTS BELOW – LIST YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW OF THE 1960s! \n
