SUMMARY:Betty White: America's Favorite Potty Mouthed Grandma
DESCRIPTION:The fabulous Betty White has been called an American national treasure – and rightly so! Up until her death at 99\, Betty White was a beacon of positivity even in difficult years! Witty\, working\, and happy\, Betty white it’s a beacon of positivity even in difficult times! \nYear in and year out\, Betty White was voted one of America’s most beloved entertainers.  In 2018\, she was chosen as the most trusted person in America! You know her as the seemingly sweet we but secretly scheming sexpot Sue Anne Nivens on the iconic  “Mary Tyler Moore Show\,” the naïve and trusting Rose Nyland on the classic  “Golden Girls\,” and the outrageous and somewhat loopy Elka Ostrovsky on ” Hot in Cleveland.” Betty White has been a staple on talk shows\, a host and panelist on game shows\, and has even performed in some popular movies\, including one classic film drama about politics in which she played a U.S. Senator! \nYou may not know that Betty White was a pioneer in the early days of television\, being the first woman to produce her own show!  The amazing Ms. White is a best-selling author and tireless advocate for animals. Most importantly\, she is widely considered one of the nicest people in all show business. This warm\, charming and funny presentation is loaded with hilarious video clips and great stories about the one and only Betty White. \n

SUMMARY:History Vs. the Movies: Mississippi Burning
DESCRIPTION: History Vs. the Movies: Mississippi Burning\nMississippi Burning: The Civil Rights Era is one of the most exciting\, important\, and electrifying eras in American history. \nIt had everything from a cinematic standpoint: dynamic lead characters\, powerful and determined villains\, mystery\, mood\, motivation\, and manipulation. Nonetheless\, movies about the era have generally not been hits\, and despite the hype about Selma\, no great masterpiece of filmmaking has yet emerged. “Mississippi Burning”  is a brilliant film but utter nonsense from a historical point of view. “Selma” is a maddening jumble. In its sections on Martin Luther King\, it is extraordinary. In its sections on Lyndon Johnson\, it is entirely misleading. “Ghosts of Mississippi” is an earnest and well-made film about the trial of the murderer of Medgar Evers. However\, unless you already knew quite a bit about Medgar Evers\, you would leave the film wondering who exactly he was. \nSome of the best films about the Civil Rights Movement have been made-for-TV films. Clark Johnson directed “Boycott”  for HBO\, and it combines arresting visuals with superb acting. The Rosa Parks made-for-TV movie was likewise excellent. Spike Lee directed an outstanding documentary\, “Four Little Girls.”  But so far\, a genuine cinematic masterpiece about the Civil Rights Era has eluded filmmakers. \nThis fast-moving and thought-provoking multimedia presentation will look at clips from some films about the Civil Rights Movement.   Our particular focus will be on “Mississippi Burning.” Using inside stories\, personal anecdotes\, and a clear timeline\, we will see how this brilliantly made film distorted history and changed America’s perceptions about the Movement. \nCheck this out: in “Mississippi Burning\,”  the FBI gets an invaluable ship to find where the bodies are buried. The screenwriter and director had to fictionalize where the tip came from. That is because the mystery informant had never been revealed. Working with the brilliant investigative reporter Jerry Mitchell\, I was able to help figure out where the tip had come from – Jerry uncovered the identity of the mysterious “Mr. X.” Click here to find out who he was! \n.

SUMMARY:Gregory Peck - Special Presentation With His Daughter!
DESCRIPTION:Hello\, friends! \nThis is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! Film expert Jarett Miller and I will be doing a free multimedia presentation on the amazing life and phenomenal career of Gregory Peck. \nWhat makes this so special is that Gregory Peck’s daughter\, multiple award-winning documentary filmmaker\, Cecilia Peck\, will be our special guest and answer your questions! \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER! \nIf your mental picture of Gregory Peck is that of a straight-shooting\, honest\, compassionate\, masculine but sensitive man who would always have your back and always stand up for the underdog\, you’d be very close to the truth!  While far from being a perfect man\, Gregory Peck was a good man who was deeply admired within the industry and beloved by fans. When President Nixon put the liberal Democrat Gregory Peck and his so-called “enemies list\,” Peck Ward as a badge of honor. Peck was also given a true badge of honor when President Lyndon B. Johnson awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. \nAs we talk about the films of Gregory Peck\, of course\, your mind will leap to his iconic portrayal of Atticus Finch in “To Kill a Mockingbird.” However\, Park made almost 60 films beginning in 1944 with “Days Of Glory” and concluding in 1991 with the fabulous “Other Peoples Money.“ Among his great classics are “Roman Holiday\,” “The Guns of Navarone\,” “Spellbound\,” “Moby Dick\,” and Gentleman’s AGreement.” \nYou may be surprised to find that Gregory Peck was also a very committed liberal activist. He stood in favor of the Civil Rights Movement and stood against Joe McCarthy\, the war in Vietnam\, and raised money to defeat segregationist candidates in major political races. His life makes for a fascinating multimedia presentation that you will not want to miss! \nPLEASE NOTE: This will be a two-hour presentation on Zoom \nEastern Time Zone: 3:00 – 5:00 \nCentral Time: 2:00 – 4:00 \nMountain Time: 1:00 – 3:00 \nPacific Time: 12:00 – 2:00 \nREGISTRATION: Free registration: CLICK HERE

SUMMARY:Alfred Hitchcock
DESCRIPTION:JARETT MILLER PRESENTS! \nSir Alfred Hitchcock directed some of the greatest suspense films of all time. Although his reputation has suffered somewhat because of the slasher/horror films he made in the early 1960s\, his work in the 1940s and 50s presented some of the most complex\, fascinating\, and suspenseful films ever made. His life and amazing body of work are highlighted in this multimedia presentation. \nBefore “Psycho” and “The Birds\,” Hitchcock created some of the most memorable suspense films ever made. Often starring Cary Grant or James Stewart opposite an icy blonde like Kim Novak or Grace Kelly\, the Golden Era of Hitchcock films were mysterious\, exciting\, and clever movies packed with tension.  \nConsider the masterpiece “Rear Window.” Stewart plays a globe-trotting photographer who is confined to his apartment with a broken leg. He spends all day staring at the apartments across the courtyard\, making up stories to explain the actions of the residents. But when he suspects that one of them has committed a murder\, his obsession becomes overwhelming. He draws his girlfriend and his nurse into believing his theory. Hitchcock’s mastery can be shown when you realize we\, the audience\, do not actually know if a murder took place at all! But for two hours\, we lean forward\, anxiously waiting to find out if what we think we have seen is what really happened! \nAlfred Hitchcock directed “Vertigo\,” which some critics consider to be the best movie ever made! “North By Northwest” \ncontains two of the most iconic shots in cinema history! Who can forget Cary Grant running through a field\, being chased by a crop duster\, or the mad scramble across Mount Rushmore? Hitchcock’s style\, understated wit\, and clever personal cameos all worked together to create a unique and wonderful body of work. So distinctive is the style of Alfred Hitchcock that all subsequent suspense films are inevitably compared to his work! \nWe will also explore the twisted mind and complex life of Alfred Hitchcock. \nJoin JARETT MILLER for this FREE Presentation through Suffern Library! \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER!

SUMMARY:TV By The Decades: Television in the 1960s
DESCRIPTION:TV in the 1960s\nThe 1960s were definitely one of TV’s oddest decades! The 1960s began with Westerns dominating the ratings! The old West soap opera Bonanza became the most popular show on the air. One after another competing show was vanquished by the old-time sensibilities of an old-fashioned Western. \nAll you really need to know about the diverse nature of TV in the 1960s is found in the answer to the question: “What show finally was able to compete with Bonanza in the ratings?” The answer was a liberal\, modern\, and very controversial challenger: The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. This bastion of the hip\, cutting edge liberal comedy gave young viewers quite a stark alternative to the Ponderosa! (Trivia! Bonanza\, like Dragnet\, had their stars wear the exact same clothes every week. It saved money on costumes and allowed the producers to reuse old shots from previous episodes! \nSo the 1960s were the era of Gunsmoke and Wagon Train\, Gilligan’s Island and The Beverly Hillbillies and Laugh-In and The Smothers Brothers! We will talk about how TV grew and changed as viewers who had enjoyed Combat began tuning in to Hogan’s Heroes. You won’t want to miss this fast-paced multimedia presentation! \nIN THE COMMENTS BELOW – LIST YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW OF THE 1960s! \n

DESCRIPTION:M*A*S*H is one of the most important\, influential\, and intriguing television series of all time. \nM*A*S*H was set during the Korean War.\, However\, the creators of M*A*S*H intended to make a statement about the ongoing war in Vietnam and war in general. SUMMARY:1972 - America 50 Years Ago
DESCRIPTION:Our time capsule lands 50 years ago in the tumultuous year of 1972. As the Vietnam war dragged on\, the battles between Archie Bunker and his son-in-law\, ‘Meathead Mike’ Stivic accurately reflected the deep divisions in 1972 America. ‘All In The Family’  Nixon went to Russia and to China and then won overwhelming reelection in the shadow of the just emerging story of Watergate. \n1972 brought us great films\, a terrorist massacre at the Olympics\, rising wages\, and a changing style of TV.  Jackie Robinson and Harry Truman died while Dwayne Johnson and when is Paltrow were born. Mark Spitz and Olga Korbut became sports legends and don McLean anthem “American Pie” shut off the charts. You will be amazed at what a fascinating year 1972 words!

SUMMARY:Natalie Wood
DESCRIPTION:Natalie Wood was one of the most popular and glamorous actresses of the 1950s and 60s. She starred in numerous classic films including\, “Miracle on 34th St.” “Rebel Without a Cause\,” “West Side Story\,” “Gypsy\,” “Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice\,” “Splendor in the Grass\,” “Sex and the Single Girl\,” & “The Great Race.” Her stunning looks\, popular performances\, and her marriages and romances made her a staple on magazine covers for 20 years. \nShe’s one of the few performers to have a significant career as a child\, teenager\, and adult. Although critics were often less than impressed by her acting ability\, she set a record by becoming only the second actress to receive three Academy Awards before she turned 25 years old! (Jennifer Lawrence and Sairose Ronan have since bested that record.) \nWhen Natalie Wood was only 43\, a mother of two\, with a great career in films and television potentially still ahead\, she died under mysterious – possibly criminal – circumstances in the Pacific Ocean. \nThis fascinating multimedia public speaking presentation will explore her troubled life\, fabulous career\, and the mysterious death of Natalie Wood.

This fast-moving\, incisive multimedia biography will certainly highlight some of his greatest films.  We will only be able to talk about a sampling of his career because the sheer number of great movies made by Jimmy Stewart is amazing. SUMMARY:Jimmy Stewart Film Icon And American Hero
DESCRIPTION:Jimmy Stewart was one of the greatest and most popular American actors of all time.  From 1935 – 1991  he appeared in over 90 beings and television shows. His name alone drew people into theaters. Stewart’s amazing range has never fully been equaled. He was a star of both Westerns and screwball comedies\, Hitchcock dramas\, and classic romance films. No matter what the role\, Jimmy Stewart’s talent\, commitment\, and decency showed through. This fast-moving\, incisive multimedia biography will certainly highlight some of his greatest films.  We will only be able to talk about a sampling of his career because the sheer number of great movies made by Jimmy Stewart is amazing. Consider just these 10: \nIt’s a Wonderful Life \nMr. Smith Goes to Washington \nThe Man Who Shot Liberty Valance \nThe Philadelphia Story \nYou Can’t Take It with You \nThe Man Who Knew Too Much \nAnatomy of a Murder \nRear Window \nVertigo \nHarvey \nOur presentation will not just cover Jimmy Stewart’s phenomenal film career. \nWe will also look at Jimmy Stewart’s heroic service in the Army Air Corps as a pilot during World War II.  At first\, Stewart was concerned that his celebrity status would relegate him to promotional appearances and goodwill tours. As an experienced pilot\, he wanted to serve his country in active combat. Although he entered the service as an enlistee\, he was eventually promoted to brigadier general! James Stewart served bravely often flying combat missions in the most dangerous situations.  He won many awards from the military and later became a lifelong spokesman for the Air Force. We will look at his heroic service and also at the enormous physical and emotional toll it took on him. \nThe small-town boy turned movie star and war hero. Frank Capra could not have scripted it better!  You are you to enjoy this presentation! \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. SUMMARY:Sidney Poitier
DESCRIPTION:Sidney Poitier is\, without question\, one of the greatest actors in the history of American film. \nAdditionally\, Sidney Poitier is the man who broke the color barrier in Hollywood. Like Barack Obama or Jackie Robinson\, he was more than just a symbol. He was a man of great talent\, skill and accomplishment. His success was not only his\, but a reminder of how America had squelched the talents of so many talented citizens.  \nMany fans of the “Golden Era” of “classic films” – including myself – have had to come to grips with the racist\, segregationist nature of those movies. Judy Garland\, Fred Astaire and Cary Grant were great actors and their films remain wildly enjoyable. But look at the films as a whole and you will see the leading roles are all played by white actors. Black actors appear as slaves\, domestics\, field hands\, or drivers. As great as Garland\, Astaire and Grant were\, it’s important to remember they were given opportunities denied to Lena Horne\, the Nicholas Brothers or any black man before Sidney Poitier. The racism of classic Hollywood denied us from appreciating some great talent. Just as the quality of baseball became better when it integrated\, so did movies improve after Sidney Poitier helped open the door. A society is stronger when all its citizens can participate. \nHowever\, his career should not be seen only as historic and groundbreaking. He was a great actor! Sidney Poitier\, in his best roles\, was simply magnificent. \nWatch “The Defiant Ones\,” “Blackboard Jungle\,” “Lillies Of The Field\,” “In The Heat Of The Night\,” “To Sir\, With Love\,” and “A Patch Of Blue” and you see a great actor at the top of his game. You can even see him in a movie with Dan Aykroyd! Poitier could be as suave as Cary Grant\, as intense as Humphrey Bogart\, as relatable as Jimmy Stewart. And unlike those other great actors\, Sidney Poitier went on to have a fabulous director of money making movies! \nJoin us for a fascinating multimedia look at the life and career of the great Sidney Poitier! \n

SUMMARY:Henry Fonda
DESCRIPTION:Henry Fonda was one of the greatest movie actors of all time! \nIn a career that spanned over 50 years\, he appeared on Broadway 16 times and made over 100 movie and TV appearances. And so many of his films banned the test of time – all-time classics that are still enjoyed more than half a century after they were made!  \n After witnessing a lynching in his native Omaha\, Henry Fonda became an unshakable champion of the values of law\, respect\, dignity and compassion. His personal decency and sense of fair play is reflected in the roles he chose. So often\, a Henry Fonda movie involved him being the lone voice of reason and sanity against a mob or a policy or a jury that was anxious for blood and unwilling to think. His unforgettable portrayal of Abraham Lincoln (click here for more about this unique and powerful film)  cemented his reputation as an actor. In the decades that followed\,  roles in important films such as “The Grapes of Wrath\,” “12 Angry Men\,” “Drums along the Mohawk” & “The Longest Day” showed his remarkable range and versatility as an actor.  \nAlthough best remembered for dramas\, Henry Fonda had a surprising and wonderful flair for comedy. In “The Lady Eve” (click here to read more) he is hilarious in a role of subtle complexity.   \nAnd although Fonda  was almost invariably cast in a heroic role\, in “Once Upon a Time in the West” \ndirected by Sergio Leone\, he played a sadistic merciless villain. And he was great at it!   \nIn this insightful multimedia presentation\, we will explore Henry Fonda’s complicated personal life and his unparalleled professional career. \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. SUMMARY:Harry Belafonte
DESCRIPTION:This has become one of my favorite new programs. And it is certainly one of the most surprising programs I have ever researched! \n\nWhen I began my research\, I thought I would be talking about a popular entertainer from the 1950s who introduced calypso music to America. \nAs I dug deeper\, I quickly realized that Harry Belafonte was one of the most important and influential leaders of the civil rights movement. In early  1968\, Johnny Carson turned over the Tonight Show to Harry Belafonte for an entire week! The “sit-in” as it was called\, featured Belafonte interviewing guests including Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King! \nYou’ll find out that Harry Belafonte was one of Martin Luther King’s closest friends and most trusted advisers\, deeply involved in the civil rights movement at every turn. \nSo what are you prefer my “straight history” presentations or my popular culture presentations\, this one is for you! \nThis makes for a completely unique multimedia presentation. \nWe will watch fabulous clips of Harry Belafonte performing spectacular calypso numbers –  and we will also hear him criticize Barack Obama for not doing enough to help African-Americans! \nI urge you to sign up for this program. There is no other entertainer or activist who combines the unique characteristics\, charismatic personality\, and thoughtful philosophy of Harry Belafonte! \nCLICK HERE For Free Registration! \n
