SUMMARY:The West Wing
DESCRIPTION:The West Wing is one of the most critically acclaimed television shows of all time. \nLIVE IN PERSON AND ON ZOOM \nThe brainchild of Aaron Sorkin reminded us that many people who go into government do so because they care deeply about our country and are genuinely idealistic about making life better. Patriotism is seen as an admirable quality. \nUsing interviews\, documentary research\, and numerous video clips\, I’ll document why and how The West Wing transformed TV and transfixed the audience!

SUMMARY:The Marx Brothers
DESCRIPTION:The Marx Brothers were much\, much better than you remember! Their humor uplifted American spirits during the Depression and established new standards for comedy. The Marx Brothers’ combination of odd and unique talents\, including a harp-playing mime\, a Jewish comic with the worst Italian accent and the most distinctive piano-playing style\, and one of the greatest monologists of all time\, have delighted and baffled classic movie fans since the Depression. They performed alongside Lucille Ball\, sang music written by Irving Berlin and acted in comedies written by the great George S. Kaufmann\, yet many people dimly think of the as analogous to The Three Stooges. \nBut when you look deeper\, you see an amazing immigrant success story\, discover how American popular culture was changing\, and meet four remarkably different and interesting men whose films rank among the best comedies of all time. “Duck Soup” is rightly considered one of the greatest films ever made about politics. Both that film and “A Night At The Opera” are on the AFI list of the 100 best movies! Whether you are a long-time fan of the Marx Brothers\, a skeptic\, or completely unfamiliar with their work\, you are in for a treat with this fun multimedia presentation! \nTHIS PRESENTATION IS LIVE AND WILL NOT BE STREAMED. THE PRESENTATION IS AT THE HIGHLAND PARK SENIOR\, LOCATED AT THE BEAUTIFUL HIGHLAND PARK COUNTRY CLUB. REGISTER THROUGH THEM!

SUMMARY:Carl Reiner
DESCRIPTION:Carl Reiner was one of the funniest men ever to appear\, write for\, or direct a TV episode! \nAt 97\, he was the oldest celebrity active on Twitter – and never contemplating retiring from show business! Join me for a fast\, funny\, and fascinating look at one of America’s classic comic treasures\, Mr. Carl Reiner \nCarl Reiner first exploded into the American consciousness as the straight man on the immortal Sid Caesar’s great TV shows. \nWorking alongside writing legends including Mel Brooks\, Woody Allen\, Neil Simon\, Selma Diamond\, and Larry Gelbart\, Carl Reiner became one of the volatile Caesar’s favorite co-stars and most trusted writers. \nTheir classic “Professor” sketches are still hilarious sixty-five years after they first aired. And his lifelong friendship and collaboration with Mel Brooks began as a result! \nAfter the Sid Caesar shows ended\, Carl Reiner created The DIck Van Dyke Show. This program would prove to be one of the most influential\, funniest\, and most transformative situation comedies of all time. \nAfter Reiner and Van Dyke ended the show at the height of its popularity\, the brilliant writer/producer/director began working on feature films. \nCarl Reiner created the cult classics “Where’s Poppa” and “Oh\, God” before embarking on a brilliant partnership with Steve Martin. The Reiner/Martin films include some of the best comedies of Steve Martin’s career\, including “The Jerk\,” “All Of Me\,” and “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. \nWe’ll enjoy clips and stories from all of this – and\, of course – the brilliant “2\,000 Year Old Man” routines with Mel Brooks. Don’t miss this excellent presentation!

SUMMARY:Gracie Allen – Underappreciated Comic Genius
DESCRIPTION: Gracie Allen is one of the funniest women ever to perform in American theater\, radio\, television\, and film. And yet if I asked you to name the greatest comedienne’s of all time\, you would probably mention names like Lucille Ball\, Carol Burnett\, Tina Fey\, and Mary Tyler Moore\, but you might not remember to include Gracie Allen.  That’s a shame because Gracie Allen deserves immense respect for creating one of the most memorable\, quotable\, and beloved comic characters of all time. \nGracie Allen – Underappreciated Comic Genius\n This multimedia presentation will highlight the phenomenal career of George Burns and Gracie Allen. We will especially focus on the very talented but often underrated Gracie Allen. \nAmong the highlights will be Gracie Allen’s historical and hysterical run for the Presidency in 1940\, her ability to dance beautifully with stars like Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell\, and her lasting impact on vaudeville\, radio\, and television comedy. \nThis unique\, fast-moving\, and funny multimedia presentation will amuse you and entertain you and open your eyes to why the fabulous Gracie Allen deserves to be remembered as one of the great comediennes of all time! \nTHIS PRESENTATION IS LIVE AND WILL NOT BE STREAMED. THE PRESENTATION IS AT THE HIGHLAND PARK SENIOR\, LOCATED AT THE BEAUTIFUL HIGHLAND PARK COUNTRY CLUB. REGISTER THROUGH THEM!

SUMMARY:Irving Berlin Holiday Inn
DESCRIPTION:Come and celebrate the holidays with Holiday Inn The Irving Berlin Musical\, featuring music from the incomparable Irving Berlin! \n “Holiday Inn” is a brand-new stage adaptation of the timeless 1942 Irving Berlin omnibus musical movie. That classic film starred Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby. The original “Holiday Inn” movie\, from Paramount Productions\, gloriously featured some of Irving Berlin’s best holiday-themed songs. The unforgettable score included “White Christmas\,”  “Easter Parade\,” “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve\,” & “Happy Holidays. \nThe original film\, while wonderful\, is also problematic. It features a cringe-worthy blackface number\, a few songs that are just duds\, and a few racial stereotypes that are just awful. These elements can make the film hard to watch – and harder still to introduce to young audiences/ \nIn 2016\, Broadway showcased a brand new\, reimagined stage version of Holiday Inn!  This fast-moving and music-filled presentation will examine both the film’s backstory and the “new Irving Berlin” musical. As an extraordinary treat\, you will see rare clips of the Broadway production. The musical’s producers kept the original premise\, dropped the blackface (thank heavens!)\, axed the poor songs\, and added other great Irving Berlin melodies\, including “Heat Wave” and “Cheek To Cheek.” This reimagined musical is a total delight!  Join us to celebrate Irving Berlin and “Holiday Inn!” \nIf you are a fan of Irving Berlin\, classic holiday movies\, and inventive Broadway musicals\, or if you just want to smile and soak up the holiday spirit\, you definitely do not want to miss this presentation! \n

SUMMARY:Walt Disney
DESCRIPTION:It is no overstatement to say that Walt Disney is one of the most influential Americans of all time. His name alone has become synonymous with forms of entertainment and recreation is known throughout the world. To call something “Disneyesque” or “Disney-like” draws to mind immediately associations. \nBonus! Click here to read the unique story of Disney’s first movie star – it wasn’t Micky! \nHis boyhood had a foot in both the 19th and 20th centuries. He grew up in the center of America\, near Kansas City\, Missouri\, and the idyllic small town of Marceline\, Missouri\, which inspired Main Street\, USA. Disney spent many of his formative years in Chicago. But his Hollywood years revolutionized how the world thinks about animation\, movies\, American history\, and vacations. He won countless Oscars and is tied with George Clooney for nominations in most categories! \n \nWalt Disney himself was quite a contradictory figure. \nAt times Walt Disney would come off as warm\, inspiring\, and avuncular\, but at other times he was described as chilly\, aloof\, and brusque. We recognize that he was more than an idea man – Disney was a reluctant entrepreneur whose restless artistic vision sometimes risked his studio and sometimes changed the world. There are so many legends about Walt Disney: from the creation of Mickey Mouse to the question of whether he was racist and anti-Semitic to the ultimate urban myth: that Walt Disney was cryogenically frozen. \nIn this fun\, fast\, and fascinating biography\, we will get to the heart of Walt Disney as a person. Using numerous video clips\, little-known anecdotes\, and informative insights\, this presentation on the life of Walt Disney is sure to intrigue you.

SUMMARY:Edward R. Murrow: The Legend\, The Man\, The Impact
DESCRIPTION:Edward R. Murrow \nMurrow at CBS \nWith a demagogue attacking anyone who criticized him\, newsman Edward R. Murrow bravely replied: \n“The actions of the junior Senator from Wisconsin have caused alarm and dismay amongst our allies abroad\, and given considerable comfort to our enemies. And whose fault is that? Not really his. He didn’t create this situation of fear; he merely exploited it — and rather successfully. Cassius was right. “The fault\, dear Brutus\, is not in our stars\, but in ourselves.” \nGood night\, and good luck.” \nFrom his riveting broadcasts from the rooftops of London during the Blitz to his unforgettable account of entering the concentration camps to his heroic challenge to Sen. Joseph McCarthy\, Edward R Murrow has long represented excellence in electronic journalism. \nMurrow’s life story is unpredictable and unique; his career was harrowing\, inspiring and deeply influential. Using rare audio and video clips\, amazing anecdotes and fascinating facts\, the life and career of Edward R. Murrow will come to life in this multimedia presentation. Click here to read a bit more about Murrow and his WWII counterpoint\, Ernie Pyle. \n

SUMMARY:The Many Faces of Danny Kaye
DESCRIPTION:The Many Faces of Danny Kaye\nHe was a brilliant comic. He sang well enough to do duets with Bing Crosby\, Louis Armstrong\, and Beverly Sills. Danny Kaye danced beautifully with Vera-Ellen\, often considered the best technical dancer in the movies. His movies gathered legions of fans. His TV show won awards. But the many faces of Danny Kaye are not limited to his unparalleled career in entertainment. Danny Kaye was also a gourmet chef\, a licensed pilot\, a  baseball team owner\, a devoted gardener\, and\, most importantly\, the first celebrity to become an international spokesman for a charity. \n  \nDanny Kaye’s involvement with UNICEF set the model that countless celebrities would follow. He traveled the world\, again and again\, to draw attention to the plight of children living in harsh circumstances. When UNICEF was awarded the Nobel peace prize\, the organization asked Danny Kaye to accept the award. \nIt’s hard to name another entertainer who could do all the things Danny Kaye could do – nor name an entertainer more committed to charity. \nThe many faces of Danny Kaye also involve a darker side. Despite the fact that he seemed affable\, Danny Kaye was a complex man\, not always easy to love or understand. In this fast-paced multimedia presentation\, filled with fabulous film clips\, you will get to know the many faces of Danny Kaye.

SUMMARY:Gracie Allen – Underappreciated Comic Genius
DESCRIPTION:Gracie Allen is one of the funniest women ever to perform in American theater\, radio\, television\, and film. And yet\, if I asked you to name the greatest comediennes of all time\, you would probably mention names like Lucille Ball\, Carol Burnett\, Tina Fey\, and Mary Tyler Moore\, but you might not remember to include Gracie Allen.  That’s a shame because Gracie Allen deserves immense respect for creating one of the most memorable\, quotable\, and beloved comic characters of all time. \nGracie Allen – Underappreciated Comic Genius\nThis multimedia presentation will highlight the phenomenal career of George Burns and Gracie Allen. \nThis unique\, fast-moving\, and funny multimedia presentation will amuse and entertain you while opening your eyes to why the fabulous Gracie Allen deserves to be remembered as one of the great comediennes of all time! \n

SUMMARY:Motivational Speech - I Love PBJ
DESCRIPTION:I LOVE PBJ: \nFIVE INGREDIENTS TO SUCCESS \nMy favorite motivational speech! \nI have shared this with companies\, keynotes\, schools and groups across the country – and each time the result has been spectacular. \nHow did a quirky\, idiosyncratic schoolteacher help reopen two cold cases from the civil rights era? I used the ideas contained in this speech! Whether you want more personal success\, a happier private life or both\, I’ll show you an easy but challenging route! \nThe “secret to success” is no secret – we already contain all the knowledge we need to have the lives we want.  In my acclaimed motivational speech\, I demonstrate how to take what you already know and turn it into the realization of your dreams. We are all just a few small adjustments away from making our lives work the way we hope they will!

SUMMARY:Harry Belafonte
DESCRIPTION:This has become one of my favorite new programs. And it is certainly one of the most surprising programs I have ever researched! \nWhen I began my research\, I thought I would be talking about a popular entertainer from the 1950s who introduced calypso music to America. \nAs I dug deeper\, I quickly realized that Harry Belafonte was one of the civil rights movement’s most important and influential leaders. In early  1968\, Johnny Carson turned over the Tonight Show to Harry Belafonte for an entire week! The “sit-in\,” as it was called\, featured Belafonte interviewing guests\, including Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King! \nYou’ll find out that Harry Belafonte was one of Martin Luther King’s closest friends and most trusted advisers\, deeply involved in the civil rights movement at every turn. \nSo whether you prefer my “straight history” presentations or my popular culture presentations\, this one is for you! \nThis makes for a completely unique multimedia presentation. \nWe will watch fabulous clips of Harry Belafonte performing spectacular calypso numbers and hear him criticize Barack Obama for not doing enough to help African-Americans! \nI urge you to sign up for this program. There is no other entertainer or activist who combines the unique characteristics\, charismatic personality\, and thoughtful philosophy of Harry Belafonte! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Aaron Sorkin On TV (AM)
DESCRIPTION:Aaron Sorkin created four fascinating television shows. When we think about Aaron Sorkin on TV\, our minds jump to “The West Wing.” It is rightfully considered one of the most outstanding television programs ever to air. \nIn this fun\, fast\, and fascinating presentation\, we will look at the other three great Aaron Sorkin TV shows. \nChronologically\, the first was Sports Night\, a fictionalized look behind the scenes at the most popular show on an all-sports network. This fantastic show\, loosely based on Keith Olbermann on “Sports Center” on ESPN\, was a critical smash but never found a large audience. You will wonder why after seeing clips of this beautiful show! \nSecond up will be “Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip.” Probably the least popular of the Aaron Sorkin on TV offerings\, this show attempt to look behind the curtain of a fictionalized version of “Saturday Night Live.” \nFinally\, we will examine “The Newsroom.” This\, in all likelihood\, will be Sorkin’s last television series. \nOnce again\, Aaron Sorkin dramatized the behind-the-scenes events at a television network. This time\, his target is a fictionalized CNN. Sorkin tried to write scripts that reflected real-life events happening in real-time! \nEach of these shows was brilliant\, yet frustrating\, but always fascinating! \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. If you cannot afford it or feel my programs are not worth $5.00\, you are invited to come for free; I am struggling but supporting a family\, so I understand with compassion living on a tight budget! \nCash/Check Payable to Barry Bradford \nBarry Bradford \nP.O. SUMMARY:Gene Kelly
DESCRIPTION:It is one of the single most iconic moments in the history of the movies: Gene Kelly dancing with absolute joy in a rainstorm in Singing In The Rain. \nThat unforgettable moment showcases so many things – a brilliant dancer and choreographer at the height of his powers is highlighted on a magnificent set\, singing a glorious song that reflects every reason why we love going to the movies in the first place. \nLike King Kong atop the Empire State Building\, Dorothy clicking her heels\, Indiana Jones running from the boulder or Cary Grant chased by an airplane\, that moment is forever etched in the minds of movie lovers. \nIn this fast moving and fun multimedia biography we will look at the life\, career\, personality and art of the great Gene Kelly. We will trace his Pittsburgh roots and follow him as a cocky kid determined to conquer dance\, Broadway and Hollywood. He redefined dance on the silver screen. Gene Kelly ditched Fred Astaire’s top hot and tails\, replacing them with a sweatshirt and loafers. His masculine dancing\, emphasis on ballet\, inventive use if props and partners all combined to make his films immediately unique and completely unforgettable. We will see clips of him dancing with partners as different as Rita Hayworth\, Fred Astaire\, Judy Garland and Jerry The Mouse! \nCome prepared to smile – and tap your toes!
