SUMMARY:Sid Caesar - The Meteoric Career Of A Comic Genius
DESCRIPTION:In the opinion of many TV critics\, the Sid Caesar programs were the funniest \, best-written and most creative shows in the history of television comedy. Caesar’s writing crew (including Carl Reiner\, Woody Allen\, Mel Brooks\, Neil Simon\, and Selma Diamond( is widely regarded as the most talented staff in the history of television. \nThe sheer talent of Sid Caesar is overwhelming – as  Carl Reiner\, his writer\, and co-star\, put it: \n“Sid Caesar set the template for everybody\,” Reiner told KNX-AM in Los Angeles. “He was without a doubt the greatest sketch comedian-monologist that television ever produced. He could ad-lib. He could do anything that was necessary to make an audience laugh.” \n \nFor all his accolades\, however\, Sid Caesar was a deeply troubled man who saw a brilliant career waste away in the wake of his addictions. After his TV programs ended\, his fame evaporated as his demons challenged him\,  It took intensive self-therapy and personal courage for him to turn his life around. And did he ever!  By the time of his death\, he was once again rewarded with the respect and reverence his comic genius deserved. \nThis unique multimedia presentation will explore all sides of Sid Caesar. You will laugh uproariously at the rare video clips and find yourself mesmerized by the intense struggle of the king of Comedy. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:M*A*S*H
DESCRIPTION:M*A*S*H is one of the most important\, influential\, and intriguing television series of all time. \nM*A*S*H was set during the Korean War.\, However\, the creators of M*A*S*H intended to make a statement about the ongoing war in Vietnam and war in general. When it finally left the air after 11\, M*A*S*H had won a slew of Emmys\, numerous other awards and was recognized already as one of the classic television series ever broadcast. \nThis is not a nostalgia program. Although we will watch some fabulous multimedia clips from the show\, our focus will be on how the show was created\, how M*A*S*H evolved\, and how the series influenced television and society.

SUMMARY:Jewish Heroes Of The Civil Rights Movement (PM)
DESCRIPTION:Some people incorrectly think of the civil rights movement as African-American people versus white people. \nThe truth is that many white people\, including many Jewish Americans\, provided physical\, emotional\, and monetary support to the movement. It would be more accurate to describe the civil rights battles of the 1950s and 60s as a battle between good and evil. \nThis inspiring and fascinating multimedia presentation will examine how Jewish Americans committed themselves to Dr. King’s goals of freedom\, voting rights\, community\, and an end to discrimination. We will examine \n“King repeatedly used the Jewish experience as a model of success over oppression. He respected and admired the values taught by Judaism and\, as a deeply religious man\, felt inspired by the Torah itself. He was sure that an alliance between blacks and Jews was fundamental to progress in civil rights. King felt a sense of kinship with the Jewish people and welcomed — even expected – – Jewish support and felt let down when it was not forthcoming.” Rabbi Marc Schneier \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. SUMMARY:Cary Grant
DESCRIPTION:Cary Grant was one of the most iconic stars in the entire history of classic Hollywood cinema. The man who was born Archibald Leach\, made more than 50 films as a leading man and yet never won a competitive Academy Award!  Cary Grant was the personification of a leading man movie star. Handsome\, talented\, suave\, debonair\, and a star in any film genre\, his place in Hollywood history is assured. \nCary Grant starred in some of the greatest screwball/romantic comedies of the ‘Classic Hollywood era. Films including “My Favorite Wife\,” “The Awful Truth\, “Bringing up Baby\,” “His Girl Friday\,” & “The Philadelphia Story”  are just the tip of the iceberg for his great career in light comedy. \nIn the 1940s\, Grant made several very well-received action pictures. \nAnd then\, in the 1950s\, Cary Grant transitioned into dramatic roles. He was particularly brilliant in “North by Northwest\,” one of Hitchcock’s greatest films. The classic tearjerker1957 “An Affair To Remember” is yet another great example of Grant’s abilities as a dramatic actor. \nThis fast-paced presentation is loaded with film clips and interesting anecdotes about the long\, legendary\, and laudable career of the great Cary Grant. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Life Of FDR - A Multimedia Presentation
DESCRIPTION:The Life Of FDR\n \nUnderstanding the life of FDR is like taking a sonogram of the USA.  Franklin Roosevelt transformed the United States with optimism\, vigor\, vision\, and skill.  The effects are still being felt and still being debated today.  And he did it all from a wheelchair. \nOptimism was one of FDR’s greatest strengths and most incredible gifts.  He inspired others to be positive\, even during the darkest days of the Second World War and during the depths of the Great Depression. FDR was the first President since Lincoln to seek out the advice of African American advisors routinely. He was the first President to appoint a woman to the cabinet. Although FDR was unable to end the misery of the Great Depression\, his policies definitely helped relieve the suffering of many people.  Just as important\, he filled them with optimism. \nWhen the Second World War loomed\, he had the vision to appoint George C. Marshall to head our armed forces – and then worked tirelessly to make sure Marshall had everything he needed to secure victory in Africa\, Europe\, and Asia. \nWoody Guthrie wrote a song called “Dear Mrs. Roosevelt\,” which contained the lines: \n“I voted for him lots of times \nAnd I’d vote for him again!” \nThe life of FDR is not without blemish. He was unfaithful to his wife and capable of being duplicitous.  His treatment of Japanese Americans is very controversial.  So is his reaction to the Holocaust.  All of his complexities and accomplishments will come to life in this non-partisan multimedia presentation. We will explore his family history\, his marriage\, his faith and all the forces that shaped the mind of one of the great Americans. \n

SUMMARY:Election of 1932 (AM)
DESCRIPTION:The Election of 1932 ended with the victory of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the Democrats in the middle of one of the greatest electoral landslides in American History. The results of the 1932 presidential election led to a fundamental realignment of the political parties and a change in the way the government interacted with individual citizens. \nThis presentation offers a deep dive into the changing politics of the 20th century. We will see how conservative Republican backlash against the progressivism of GOP President Theodore Roosevelt and the reform-minded policies of the Democrat Woodrow Wilson swept into power three Republican presidents. \nThe laissez-faire financial plans and anti-immigration policies of Presidents Warren Harding\, Calvin Coolidge\, and Herbert Hoover led to a massive economic boom known as the Roaring 20s. \nAnd then they also lead to the great depression. This is the prelude to one of the most important\, consequential elections America has ever seen. \nJoin us on Zoom for a fascinating look at American History as it changes before your eyes. \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. SUMMARY:History Vs. the Movies: Mississippi Burning
DESCRIPTION: History Vs. the Movies: Mississippi Burning\nMississippi Burning: The Civil Rights Era is one of the most exciting\, important\, and electrifying eras in American history. \nIt had everything from a cinematic standpoint: dynamic lead characters\, powerful and determined villains\, mystery\, mood\, motivation\, and manipulation. Nonetheless\, movies about the era have generally not been hits\, and despite the hype about Selma\, no great masterpiece of filmmaking has yet emerged. “Mississippi Burning”  is a brilliant film but utter nonsense from a historical point of view. “Selma” is a maddening jumble. In its sections on Martin Luther King\, it is extraordinary. In its sections on Lyndon Johnson\, it is entirely misleading. “Ghosts of Mississippi” is an earnest and well-made film about the trial of the murderer of Medgar Evers. However\, unless you already knew quite a bit about Medgar Evers\, you would leave the film wondering who exactly he was. \nSome of the best films about the Civil Rights Movement have been made-for-TV films. Clark Johnson directed “Boycott”  for HBO\, and it combines arresting visuals with superb acting. The Rosa Parks made-for-TV movie was likewise excellent. Spike Lee directed an outstanding documentary\, “Four Little Girls.”  But so far\, a genuine cinematic masterpiece about the Civil Rights Era has eluded filmmakers. \nThis fast-moving and thought-provoking multimedia presentation will look at clips from some films about the Civil Rights Movement.   Our particular focus will be on “Mississippi Burning.” Using inside stories\, personal anecdotes\, and a clear timeline\, we will see how this brilliantly made film distorted history and changed America’s perceptions about the Movement. \nCheck this out: in “Mississippi Burning\,”  the FBI gets an invaluable ship to find where the bodies are buried. The screenwriter and director had to fictionalize where the tip came from. That is because the mystery informant had never been revealed. Working with the brilliant investigative reporter Jerry Mitchell\, I was able to help figure out where the tip had come from – Jerry uncovered the identity of the mysterious “Mr. X.” Click here to find out who he was! \n.

SUMMARY:Phil Spector And The Murder Of Lana Clarkson
DESCRIPTION:Phil Spector And The Murder Of Lana Clarkson\nIt sounds like an Agatha Christie story – a brilliant but troubled music producer takes a stunning actress who was down on her luck back to his Tyrolian mansion for a drink. Two people are in the room. There is one gun. She ends up dead. Was it a murder? An accident? A suicide? A brilliant prosecutor and his superb assistant had to fight off the O. J. Simpson dream team to convince a jury that Phil Spector was guilty. \nThe problem: not only did the defendant have nearly unlimited resources and the ability to purchase the best attorneys and experts in the world\, but he had history on his side. No person who was a celebrity before their arrest had ever been convicted of murder in the USA! \nThe riveting murder trial of the bizarre Phil Spector played out very differently than the trial of O. J. Simpson. Although Spector hired members of O. J.’s ‘dream team\,’ In this case\, a competent judge and a superb prosecutor made the evidence the center of the case. You will be fascinated by each team of lawyers’ intricate and detailed strategies and the colorful cast of characters called as witnesses. \nFinally\, we will also look at how a crazed HBO movie written and directed by David Mamet tried to make the argument that Spector was actually innocent! (Mamet admitted that the facts of the case did not matter to him.)Sex\, glamour\, forensics\, high-priced lawyers – this trial has everything! \n  \n

SUMMARY:Betty White: America's Favorite Potty Mouthed Grandma
DESCRIPTION:The fabulous Betty White has been called an American national treasure – and rightly so! Up until her death at 99\, Betty White was a beacon of positivity even in difficult years! Witty\, working\, and happy\, Betty white it’s a beacon of positivity even in difficult times! \nBetty White was voted one of America’s most beloved entertainers year in and year out.  In 2018\, she was chosen as the most trusted person in America! You know her as the seemingly sweet we but secretly scheming sexpot Sue Anne Nivens on the iconic  “Mary Tyler Moore Show\,” the endearing\, naïve\, and trusting Rose Nyland on the classic  “Golden Girls\,” and the outrageous and somewhat loopy Elka Ostrovsky on ” Hot in Cleveland.” \n Betty White has been a staple on talk shows\, a host and panelist on game shows\, and has even performed in some popular movies\, including one classic film drama about politics in which she played a U.S. Senator! \nYou may not know that Betty White was a pioneer in the early days of television\, being the first woman to produce her own show!  The amazing Ms. White is a best-selling author and tireless advocate for animals. Most importantly\, she is widely considered one of the nicest people in all show business. This warm\, charming and funny presentation is loaded with hilarious video clips and great stories about the one and only Betty White. \n

SUMMARY:Barbara Stanwyck (Tuesday AM)
DESCRIPTION:“Career is too pompous a word. It was a job\, and I have always felt privileged to be paid for doing what I love doing.” \nBarbara Stanwyck may be the greatest movie actress who never won an Oscar. Her career spanned some eighty-five films over six decades. \nMs. Stanwyck could play any kind of role. She was heartbreaking in dramas like “Stella Dallas” and “Titanic.” In great comedies like “Ball Of Fire” and “The Mad Miss Manton\,” Barbara Stanwyck’s perfect comic timing stole the show\, She played a romantic lead in “Christmas in Connecticut)\, a gorgeous\, clever con artist in “The Lady Eve\,” a non-nonsense Western heroine in “Forty Guns\,” and a preacher who was alternatively pious or manipulative in Frank Capra’s “Miracle Woman. \nShe may best be remembered for playing strong but fallen women in films such as Billy Wilder’s classic mystery “Double Indemnity\,” But no matter what the role demanded\, she could handle it. After her movie career faded\, she became a television star\, working into her eighties on shows like “The Big Valley\,” “The Thorn Birds\,” and “The Colbys.” \nMs. Stanwyck’s career encompasses the classic era of Hollywood. This multimedia presentation is filled with fabulous film clips and intriguing anecdotes that will bring her unique life story and unparalleled career to life.
