SUMMARY:Civil War Stories - Reflections On Amercia's Deadliest War
DESCRIPTION:1860 & 1861 The Civil War At 150\nA Nation Divided – 1860 1861 The Civil War \nThe Declaration Of Independence boldly stated “We hold these truths to be self evident\, that all men are created equal…” The Civil War tested whether or not we really meant it. In 1860\, our nation faced one of the most crucial elections in our history.  Four great candidates stood for office.  The only real issue was slavery. \nToday\, we see the practice of kidnapping human beings and holding them against their will as abhorrent.  In 1860\, the economy and social structure of an entire region of the United States were built on the premise that kidnapping and bondage were acceptable means of making money.  Our four-week series begins with an in-depth look at the Lincoln-Douglas debates of 1858\, the election of 1860\, and the secession of the Confederate States. In 1861\, the Civil War really began.  We saw American citizens in revolt against the Constitution while holding millions of people against their will.  We saw personal tragedies unfold as the tender-hearted Abraham Lincoln saw the body of the first American patriot killed by the rebels brought back to Washington\, DC.  It was Elmer Ellsworth.  He was a close friend of Lincoln’s. The death of Elmer Ellsworth represents the personal nature of this deadly fight. People happily brought picnic baskets to watch the First Battle Of Bull Run unfold.  By the end of the battle\, America knew war was not glamorous and victory would be difficult. We will explore how\, in 1861\, the Civil War began a great test of America’s moral purpose\, military strength\, and future direction. Today the battlefields of the Civil War are quiet. \nThe Battlefield at Bull Run \nWe will see how they were the sites of the greatest struggle in American history.

SUMMARY:The Patient Is The President - Deaths And Near Deaths
DESCRIPTION:The assassination of John F. Kennedy shocked the nation. As the mortally wounded President was rushed to Parkland Hospital\, surgeons scrambled to try and save him. When the patient is the President\, the whole nation is watching the every move of the doctors. Since that fateful day in November 1963\, every choice\, action\, and report of the medical team has been scrutinized and second-guessed by professionals and laymen alike. As a result of the historical Monday morning quarterbacking of the public\, every medical treatment of every President since has been reported in minute detail! \nThis unique and fast-paced multimedia presentation will have you enthralled as we watch doctors desperately work to save the lives of Presidents Lincoln\, Garfield\, and Reagan after they were shot. We will also look at how other Presidential health crises were handled (or mishandled) by physicians. For instance\, President John Tyler might well have lived had his doctors simply done nothing at all!  Woodrow Wilson’s crippling stroke was kept secret from the public\, the media\, and even the Congress by his doctor. In each case\, we will look at what was done\, what wasn’t done and whether medicine today might have changed the diagnosis\, treatment or the outcome! \n

SUMMARY:Grover Cleveland - The Greatest President You Don't Know
DESCRIPTION:Here is a fun piece of political trivia. Name all the men who one the popular vote for president more than twice. Franklin Delano Roosevelt\, obviously. Andrew Jackson did it after first being robbed of the presidency by a deal made in the electoral college. But who is the third? The answer is Grover Cleveland -the best president you don’t know about!  Cleveland of one of the popular vote in three consecutive elections: 1880\, 1884\, and 1888. Grover Cleveland served two consequential  nonconsecutive terms after losing the Electoral College in a very narrow  contest in 1884. \nOne measure of presidential popularity is the ability to get reelected.  By being the choice of the American public three consecutive times\, Cleveland established himself as president who earned the trust of the American public. \nAs the only Democrat elected between the Civil War and 1912\, Grover Cleveland  was noted as a man of stubborn honesty and personal integrity even by those who bitterly opposed his policies.   Be sure to read this article about  his amazing life – our first superstar First Lady. This  completely unique multimedia presentation will educate\, entertain and intrigue you!

SUMMARY:History Vs. The Movies - Capote and In Cold Blood
DESCRIPTION:Click Here To Read About “In Cold Blood” \n \nOn a quiet Monday in November 1969\, Truman Capote was sitting in his apartment in Manhattan\, reading page 39 of the New York Times\, where he found the following 300-word account of a brutal murder in an obscure corner of bar Western Kansas. \n“A wealthy wheat farmer\, his wife\, and their two young children were found shot to death today in their home. They had been killed by shotgun blasts at close range after being bound and gagged. The father\, 48-year-old Herbert W. Clutter\, was found in the basement with his son\, Kenyon\, 15. His wife Bonnie\, 45\, and a daughter\, Nancy\, 16\, were in their beds. There were no signs of a struggle\, and nothing had been stolen. The telephone lines had been cut. “This is apparently the case of a psychopathic killer\,” Sheriff Earl Robinson said. Mr. Clutter was the founder of The Kansas Wheat Growers Association. […] Mr. Clutter\, his wife\, and daughter were clad in pajamas. The boy was wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt. The bodies were discovered by two of Nancy’s classmates\, Susan Kidwell and Nancy Ewalt. Sheriff Robinson said the last reported communication with Mr. Clutter took place last night at about 9:30 PM when the victim called Gerald Van Vleet\, his business partner\, who lives nearby. Mr. Van Vleet said the conversation had concerned the farm and ranch.” \nAs he read\, Capote became fascinated by how such a shocking crime would affect a small\, close-knit community. \nThe Clutter Family \nTruman Capote immediately decided to visit the town. Aided by Harper Lee (later the author of ‘To Kill A Mockingbird)\, he spent the next five years getting to know everyone in the town: the investigators\, friends of the victims\, and especially the killers. \nIn 1966\, he published what was called the first “nonfiction novel\,” the blockbuster bestseller and later film\, “In Cold Blood.” These same events have been retold in two biographical movies\, “Capote” starring Philip Seymour Hoffman\, and  “Infamous” starring Toby Jones. \nIn this unique multimedia presentation\, we will explore Capote’s life and his work on “In Cold Blood” and try and determine how historically accurate are the book and film. \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. SUMMARY:The Best Losing Presidential Candidates
DESCRIPTION:The Best Losing Presidential Candidates\nWhat do Adlai Stevenson\, George McGovern\, Daniel Webster\, and Wendell Willkie have in common? \nEach ran for President and lost. In some cases\, more than once! \nAnd each was an outstanding man who might well have made a great President. \nIn this unique multimedia presentation\, I will share my list of the ten best men to run for President and lose.  I’ll offer fascinating glimpses into the men\, the times\, and the campaigns. \nWe will explore why each man failed in his bid and speculate on the different directions our country might have taken had the election been decided differently.  For instance\, how would America have responded on the morning of 9-11 if Al Gore had been President? Or if Wendell Willkie had been President on Pearl Harbor Day?  It’s fun to think about and debate! \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Sid Caesar - The Meteoric Career Of A Comic Genius
DESCRIPTION:In the opinion of many TV critics\, the Sid Caesar programs were the funniest \, best-written and most creative shows in the history of television comedy. Caesar’s writing crew (including Carl Reiner\, Woody Allen\, Mel Brooks\, Neil Simon\, and Selma Diamond( is widely regarded as the most talented staff in the history of television. \nThe sheer talent of Sid Caesar is overwhelming – as  Carl Reiner\, his writer\, and co-star\, put it: \n“Sid Caesar set the template for everybody\,” Reiner told KNX-AM in Los Angeles. “He was without a doubt the greatest sketch comedian-monologist that television ever produced. He could ad-lib. He could do anything that was necessary to make an audience laugh.” \n \nFor all his accolades\, however\, Sid Caesar was a deeply troubled man who saw a brilliant career waste away in the wake of his addictions. After his TV programs ended\, his fame evaporated as his demons challenged him\,  It took intensive self-therapy and personal courage for him to turn his life around. And did he ever!  By the time of his death\, he was once again rewarded with the respect and reverence his comic genius deserved. \nThis unique multimedia presentation will explore all sides of Sid Caesar. You will laugh uproariously at the rare video clips and find yourself mesmerized by the intense struggle of the king of Comedy. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Unusual Movie Musicals
DESCRIPTION:What is the greatest movie musical of all time? “Singin’ In The Rain\,” “Grease\,” “The Wizard Of Oz\,” “West Side Story\,” and a number of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers films would pop up in many lists. However\, this fun multimedia presentation will not cover an of them! Instead\, you’ll be introduced to some wonderful but decidedly unusual movie musicals. \nWe will see the great Harry Belafonte’s only movie musical – in which he sings music from Bizet’s opera Carmen and a stunning recreation of the Las Vegas strip\, built on a movie soundstage. Each of these unusual films is fabulous in its own way. \nOur cinematic journey will take us from a 1980 film in which Olivia Newton-John plays a daughter of Zeus who roller skates down from Mount Olympus to dance with Gene Kelly before inspiring a struggling artist to build a roller disco (seriously!) to a 1968 full-length\, kaleidoscopic animated feature using voice actors to recreate the Beatles saving us from the Blue Meanies\, this entertaining and quirky program is filled with unexpected delights! \n  \n
