SUMMARY:Phil Spector And The Murder Of Lana Clarkson
DESCRIPTION:Phil Spector And The Murder Of Lana Clarkson\nIt sounds like an Agatha Christie story – a brilliant but troubled music producer takes a stunning actress who was down on her luck back to his Tyrolian mansion for a drink. Two people are in the room. There is one gun. She ends up dead. Was it a murder? An accident? A suicide? A brilliant prosecutor and his superb assistant had to fight off the O. J. Simpson dream team to convince a jury that Phil Spector was guilty. \nThe problem: not only did the defendant have nearly unlimited resources and the ability to purchase the best attorneys and experts in the world\, but he had history on his side. No person who was a celebrity before their arrest had ever been convicted of murder in the USA! \nThe riveting murder trial of the bizarre Phil Spector played out very differently than the trial of O. J. Simpson. Although Spector hired members of O. J.’s ‘dream team\,’ In this case\, a competent judge and a superb prosecutor made the evidence the center of the case. You will be fascinated by each team of lawyers’ intricate and detailed strategies and the colorful cast of characters called as witnesses. \nFinally\, we will also look at how a crazed HBO movie written and directed by David Mamet tried to make the argument that Spector was actually innocent! (Mamet admitted that the facts of the case did not matter to him.)Sex\, glamour\, forensics\, high-priced lawyers – this trial has everything! \n  \n

SUMMARY:South Pacific - A Multimedia Presentation on South Pacific
DESCRIPTION:South Pacific is one of the greatest works of musical theater ever created. Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein’s masterpiece combines a unique and fascinating story of American nurses and GI on a remote island during World War II with an unforgettable score and powerful lyrics. Add in lavish costumes\, a beautiful set\, and fabulous staging\, and something unforgettable evolves right in front of the audience’s eyes. This multimedia presentation on South Pacific will help you more fully appreciate this work of genius. \nHowever\, South Pacific is more than just an outstanding musical. The story is powerful as it launches a broadside against racism in America. Like Hamilton\, this is a work of genius that transcends musical theater expectations and attempts to influence the country’s political discussion. South Pacific is romantic\, suspenseful\, and often very funny. At its core\, this was a personal statement against racism and prejudice by its extraordinary creators. Click here to read why this story was personal for Oscar Hammerstein II. Two different characters\, both white Americans\, realize that their love for non-white Asian people dooms any chance of returning to a bigoted America in the 1940s. Beloved by critics and the audience\, the show was nonetheless divisive and controversial with some conservatives! This multimedia presentation on South Pacific will reveal its authors’ motivations and intent. \nThis multimedia presentation traces South Pacific’s backstory\, beginning with author John O’Hara’s wartime experiences and brilliant book of short stories that became the basis for the musical. \nWe will look at excerpts from the stage musical and film versions to explore the history and impact of a Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece of the Broadway stage. Come for the music and stay for the amazing story! \n

In this powerful multimedia presentation\, we will look at how the battles and trials of 1863 changed America and led Lincoln to declare the Emancipation Proclamation. Among the fascinating topics\, we will look at will be the Gettysburg address\, the major battles of 1863\, Lincoln’s declaration of the first thanksgiving day\, and how Lincoln’s view on emancipation changed.\nIn 1863\, Abraham Lincoln made the rationale for winning the war\, not just the preservation of the Union but also the destruction and elimination of the barbaric practice of slavery. At Gettysburg\, Lincoln made one of the most memorable speeches of all time\, declaring\,| “that government of the people\, by the people\, for the people\, shall not perish from the earth.”  \nIn 1863 Lincoln showed his great compassion and deep faith by declaring the first National Thanksgiving Day – despite the carnage of the War. \nFinally\, as battles raged and riots erupted\, President Abraham Lincoln announced the \nEmancipation Proclamation. The purpose of the Civil War had shifted\, although victory against the terrorists was still far from certain. Lincoln’s moral stance elevated the purpose of the War to something noble. \nPlease don’t miss this amazing multimedia presentation!

SUMMARY:Great Fortunes Of The Gilded Age (Andrew Carnegie)
DESCRIPTION:During the Gilded Age\, America saw a handful of families dominate the economy with staggering fortunes. \nIf I asked you to name the richest American\, you’d probably say Bill Gates or Sam Walton.  Both are from the top of the list! \nAt one time\, Andrew Carnegie was the richest man in the world. Then he gave away 90% of his fortune! He founded Carnegie Mellon University and his name is still attached to funding for arts programs across the USA.  How did he earn that money and what did he do with it? How did this tiny Scot invent “scientific philanthropy” – and how did he become the terror of the business world – forcing even the richest men in America to capitulate to him? Was the horrendous death toll of the Johnstown Flood his fault? Did he authorize the massive beatings of his employees when they asked for a raise? With rare video clips\, intriguing insights and fascinating biographical details\, the controversial and compelling life of Andrew Carnegie will take shape before your eyes. \nThis multi-week series examines the great fortunes  of that fascinating era.  We will attempt to put each into perspective and offer intriguing insights\, modern comparisons and historical context for each. SUMMARY:1862 The Civil War Year By Year- The Battle For America
DESCRIPTION:1862 The Civil War At 150\n\n\n\n\nA Nation Divided – 1862 The Civil War\n\n\n\nWhen the Civil War began\, both sides believed the war would end quickly. They could not have been more wrong. At the two-day Battle of Shiloh\, there were more American casualties than in the entire Revolutionary War\, the War Of 1812\, and the Mexican – American War – combined. Both sides realized that the War would be long and bloody and that the casualty count would stagger the imagination. \nThe Southern (“Confederate” traitors were helped in 1862 by good military leadership but their cause was hurt by inept political leadership fighting for the right to hold human beings as forced laborers  sexual slaves under the guise of “State’s Rights.”  \nThe United States Of America was hurt by the uneven military leadership and helped enormously by political leadership that evolved and grew in purpose and resolve. \nIn this week’s presentation\, we will trace the dual paths of the USA and the traitors and note the emergence of General Grant. \n

SUMMARY:The Richest Americans: Railroad Robber Barons
DESCRIPTION:Jay Gould\, James Fisk\, Leland Stanford: The Railroad “Robber Barons” were some of the richest\, most influential men in American history. \n \nThe term “robber baron” is usually applied to these men who revolutionized the business of railroads while carrying on the business of political manipulation. Each had a profound impact on his times and each was cloaked in controversy.  \nOn the one hand\, they helped build the massive railroad lines that helped the American economy grow at unprecedented rates in the 1800s. The Transcontinental Railroad sped the settling of the West\, allowed the vast mineral and natural resources of the West to help build the economy\, and opened new markets for beef\, grain\, corn fruit\, and the massive agricultural harvest of the Great Plains. It provided employment\, led to innumerable secondary businesses across the country. Their massive fortunes have had a massive impact on American education and culture. \nBut the driving of the “Golden Spike” that joined the railroads was preceded by massive social and racial upheaval. The Native American Indian nations fought a losing 25-year war to protect their lands. Chinese workers were imported by the thousands\, worked under the most daunting\, arduous conditions. However\, the presence of Chinese workers caused vast changes to American immigration laws along racial lines.  \nThe story of the men who built the railroads is fascinating and memorable! This fast-moving multimedia presentation is filled with amazing stories of some of the wealthiest men in the history of the USA. \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00.
