SUMMARY:The Life Of Robin Williams
DESCRIPTION:The Life Of Robin Williams\nRobin Williams was one of the funniest comedians of all time.  His improvisational skills were almost other-worldly!  Yet behind the comic persona lay a complex man- intensely charitable and compassionate but plagued by insecurity\, battling addictions\, and vulnerable to depression. In this multi-media presentation\, we will examine the fascinating life and sad death of Robin Williams – and watch as his fantastic career took shape! \nWhile early audiences remember him as Mork\, others remember his free-form\, intense improvisational riffs.  We will also celebrate his long\, accomplished and acclaimed career as a film actor. \n \nLike fellow comedian Steve Martin\, Robin Williams became a superb movie actor. Over time\, he took on acting roles in almost every genre. Robin Williams was excellent in drama\, comedy\, animation\, thrillers – and made an indelible impression in all. He could play a research neurologist in one film and a cross-dressing nanny in the next. Williams was nominated several times for Oscars\, including a win playing a compassionate and serious psychotherapist in “Good Will Hunting.” \nWe will look at clips from a wides sampling of his movie work\, including “Mrs. Doubtfire\,” “Aladdin\,” “Awakenings\,” “One Hour Photo\,” “Good Morning\, Vietnam\,” “A Night At The Museum\,” “Good Will Hunting” and many more. \nAlthough we will undoubtedly talk about Robin Williams’ tragic death\, most of this fascinating presentation will focus on the extraordinary life and truly unparalleled talent of one of the most unique and funniest men of all time – the great Robin Williams. \n

SUMMARY:History vs. The Movies - The Bridge on the River Kwai
DESCRIPTION:The Bridge on the River Kwai  Is One of the Greatest World War II Movies.\nIs It Accurate?\n \nThe Bridge on the River Kwai is a masterpiece of filmmaking. The story concerns British soldiers captured by the Japanese during the Second World War\, ordered to build a bridge to connect a vital railway link to help the Japanese army. \nAt first\, the British commanding officer resisted but then decided that it would be good for his men’s morale to help build a bridge that would last forever. Meanwhile\, a guerrilla team led by an American Navy man who had been held in the camp and then escaped hacked their way through a thick jungle to try and destroy the bridge. \nHistory vs. The Movies – The Bridge on the River Kwai\nA book that purported to tell the true story of the British prisoners forced to work along the Southeast Asian Railway was the basis for the screenplay. When the movie premiered\, surviving members of the British POW contingent that built the actual bridge bitterly contested this story. For example\, in the film\, the British commander is seen as collaborating with the Japanese commanding officer and ordered that the bridge be built to the highest possible specifications. While there is no denying that this is a brilliantly acted and perfectly written film featuring magnificent cinematography\, many questions remain about whether it tells the true story. \nIn this fast and fascinating multimedia presentation\, we will compare the historical events with the cinematic portrayal. This mesmerizing story is not to be missed. \nTHIS EVENT WILL BE FREE ON ZOOM. CLICK HERE FOR REGISTRATION!

SUMMARY:Sidney Poitier
DESCRIPTION:Sidney Poitier is\, without question\, one of the greatest actors in the history of American film. \nAdditionally\, Sidney Poitier is the man who broke the color barrier in Hollywood. Like Barack Obama or Jackie Robinson\, he was more than just a symbol. He was a man of great talent\, skill and accomplishment. His success was not only his\, but a reminder of how America had squelched the talents of so many talented citizens.  \nMany fans of the “Golden Era” of “classic films” – including myself – have had to come to grips with the racist\, segregationist nature of those movies. Judy Garland\, Fred Astaire and Cary Grant were great actors and their films remain wildly enjoyable. But look at the films as a whole and you will see the leading roles are all played by white actors. Black actors appear as slaves\, domestics\, field hands\, or drivers. As great as Garland\, Astaire and Grant were\, it’s important to remember they were given opportunities denied to Lena Horne\, the Nicholas Brothers or any black man before Sidney Poitier. The racism of classic Hollywood denied us from appreciating some great talent. Just as the quality of baseball became better when it integrated\, so did movies improve after Sidney Poitier helped open the door. A society is stronger when all its citizens can participate. \nHowever\, his career should not be seen only as historic and groundbreaking. He was a great actor! Sidney Poitier\, in his best roles\, was simply magnificent. \nWatch “The Defiant Ones\,” “Blackboard Jungle\,” “Lillies Of The Field\,” “In The Heat Of The Night\,” “To Sir\, With Love\,” and “A Patch Of Blue” and you see a great actor at the top of his game. You can even see him in a movie with Dan Aykroyd! Poitier could be as suave as Cary Grant\, as intense as Humphrey Bogart\, as relatable as Jimmy Stewart. And unlike those other great actors\, Sidney Poitier went on to have a fabulous director of money making movies! \nJoin us for a fascinating multimedia look at the life and career of the great Sidney Poitier! \n

SUMMARY:Diana: Life Of The The People's Princess
DESCRIPTION:Diana: Glamorous And Tragic Life Of a Princess \nFREE ZOOM PRESENTATION \nLady Diana Spencer was the “People’s Princess” beloved throughout the world for her compassion as much as for her glamour. \nSweet\, pretty Lady Diana Spencer was a shy and charming kindergarten teacher when she caught the eye of Prince Charles\, heir to the throne of Great Britain. At first\, to the public\, her story seemed like a fairytale. A pretty young girl had been plucked out of obscurity to marry the dashing Prince. But the truth of Diana’s private life was very different from the public perception.   \nIn 1981\, an estimated 750 million people around the world watched the beautiful 20-year-old Diana Spencer marry her handsome Prince Charles amidst all the pomp and circumstance of the British Empire. But barely more than 10 years later\, she was bitterly divorced with two children\, suffering from severe depression and eating disorders\, brought out by the realization that her cool and diffident husband had been having an affair with a long-time girlfriend\, Camilla Parker-Bowles. \nAfter Princess Diana’s ugly public divorce\, she became an outcast from the British Royal family. Despite that\, she became even more beloved by the British public! She was seen as an affectionate and doting mother\, an icon of fashion style\, and\, most importantly\, a tireless champion for humanitarian causes. Diana met with Mother Teresa in an effort to bring attention to the global aid epidemic. She risked her life to try and read war zones of the scourge of land mines. \nWherever she went\, whatever she did\, and whomever she dated\, Diana’s every move was followed by the insatiable British press. They detailed Diana’s every date\, every vacation\, and every outfit. \nWhen Princess Diana died in a horrible car crash\, she was mourned by the world. The outpouring of grief in Britain forever changed the nation’s view of the monarchy. Diana’s unexpected life\, veering between glamour and tragedy\, and her sudden and controversial death make for an unforgettable story. \nCLICK HERE FOR REGISTRATION FOR THIS FREE ZOOM PRESENTATION \n

SUMMARY:M*A*S*H
DESCRIPTION:M*A*S*H is one of the most important\, influential\, and intriguing television series of all time. \nM*A*S*H was set during the Korean War.\, However\, the creators of M*A*S*H intended to make a statement about the ongoing war in Vietnam and war in general. When it finally left the air after 11\, M*A*S*H had won a slew of Emmys\, numerous other awards and was recognized already as one of the classic television series ever broadcast. \nThis is not a nostalgia program. Although we will watch some fabulous multimedia clips from the show\, our focus will be on how the show was created\, how M*A*S*H evolved\, and how the series influenced television and society.

SUMMARY:1972 (AM) Life In America 50 Years Ago
DESCRIPTION:Our time capsule lands on the tumultuous events of 50 years ago in the tumultuous year of 1972. As the Vietnam war dragged on\, the battles between Archie Bunker and his son-in-law\, ‘Meathead Mike Stivic\, accurately reflected the deep divisions in 1972 America. ‘All In The Family  Nixon went to Russia to China and then won overwhelming reelection in the shadow of the just emerging story of Watergate. \n1972 brought us great films\, a terrorist massacre at the Olympics\, rising wages\, and a changing style of TV. Jackie Robinson and Harry Truman died\, while Dwayne Johnson and Gwyneth Paltrow were born. Mark Spitz and Olga Korbut became sports legends\, and Don McLean’s anthem “American Pie” shot up the charts. You will be amazed at what a fascinating year 1972 was! \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00. If you cannot afford it or feel my programs are not worth $5.00\, you are invited to come for free; I am struggling but supporting a family\, so I understand with compassion living on a tight budget! \nCash/Check Payable to Barry Bradford \nBarry Bradford \nP.O. SUMMARY:Lincoln's Greatest Speeches (Afternoon)
DESCRIPTION:This brand-new presentation will introduce you to the most important speeches given by our greatest president. Abraham Lincoln was a master of communication. Like FDR during World War II\, Lincoln constantly explained to Americans why we were fighting the Civil War. Although many people throughout the Union opposed him\, President Abraham Lincoln never stopped trying to bring about national consensus\, conciliation\, and cooperation. \nYou are probably very familiar with the Gettysburg address. And you may remember that President Lincoln famously called on the nation to deal with defeated traitors\, “With malice towards none and charity towards all..” but in this insightful history presentation\, we will go pull out the surface. We will look at how Lincoln used language to make sure his positions were clearly understood\, that people felt empowered\, and with the hope that he could heal a broken nation.  \nCLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION! \nTHE EVENT IS IN-PERSON ONLY; IT WILL NOT BE STREAMED OR RECORDED!  \n
