SUMMARY:Carl Reiner
DESCRIPTION:Carl Reiner was one of the funniest men ever to appear\, write for\, or direct a TV episode! \nAt 97\, he was the oldest celebrity active on Twitter – and never contemplating retiring from show business! Join me for a fast\, funny\, and fascinating look at one of America’s classic comic treasures\, Mr. Carl Reiner \nCarl Reiner first exploded into the American consciousness as the straight man on the immortal Sid Caesar’s great TV shows. \nWorking alongside writing legends including Mel Brooks\, Woody Allen\, Neil Simon\, Selma Diamond\, and Larry Gelbart\, Carl Reiner became one of the volatile Caesar’s favorite co-stars and most trusted writers. \nTheir classic “Professor” sketches are still hilarious sixty-five years after they first aired. And his lifelong friendship and collaboration with Mel Brooks began as a result! \nAfter the Sid Caesar shows ended\, Carl Reiner created The DIck Van Dyke Show. This program would prove to be one of the most influential\, funniest\, and most transformative situation comedies of all time. \nAfter Reiner and Van Dyke ended the show at the height of its popularity\, the brilliant writer/producer/director began working on feature films. \nCarl Reiner created the cult classics “Where’s Poppa” and “Oh\, God” before embarking on a brilliant partnership with Steve Martin. The Reiner/Martin films include some of the best comedies of Steve Martin’s career\, including “The Jerk\,” “All Of Me\,” and “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid. \nWe’ll enjoy clips and stories from all of this – and\, of course – the brilliant “2\,000-Year-Old Man” routines with Mel Brooks. Don’t miss this excellent presentation!

SUMMARY:1975: Life in America 50 Years Ago
DESCRIPTION:Revisit 1975\, a year when America found itself at a crossroads. In the aftermath of Watergate\, the country was grappling with questions of trust and leadership\, while Vietnam veterans returned home to a divided nation. At the same time\, disco fever was taking over\, with songs like Gloria Gaynor’s Never Can Say Goodbye and KC and the Sunshine Band lighting up dance floors across the country. Two of the Three Stooges (Larry and Moe) died in the same year that Tiger Woods and Kate Winslet were born. \nIn the world of American popular culture\, 1975 saw the release of groundbreaking films like Jaws\, which became the first summer blockbuster\, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest\, a critical and commercial success. \nSaturday Night Live debuted on television\, changing comedy forever\, while Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run captured the hopes and frustrations of a generation. Consumer prices reflected the energy crisis\, with gas costing just 57 cents a gallon but often hard to come by due to shortages. \nThis dynamic program brings 1975 to life with a mix of visuals\, music\, and engaging stories that showcase the era’s highs and lows. Whether you’re nostalgic for bell-bottoms or curious about how the cultural shifts of the 1970s shaped America\, this presentation is a must-see. Sign up now to take a journey back to a year of transformation and unforgettable moments.

SUMMARY:2000: Life in America 25 Years Ago
DESCRIPTION:Travel back to the year 2000\, when America stood on the cusp of the 21st century. The dawn of the internet age was in full swing\, with AOL chatrooms\, Napster\, and the first major dot-com bubble shaping how people connected and consumed media. \nY2K fears loomed large\, but the new millennium arrived without the predicted chaos. Politically\, the nation witnessed one of the most contentious presidential elections in history\, as the Supreme Court ultimately decided the Bush-Gore race. \nAmong the famous people who left us in 2000 were Hedy Lamarr\, Steve Allen\, Walter Matthau\, and Charles Schulz. \n2000 was also a landmark year in American popular culture. On television\, Survivor revolutionized reality TV\, while Gladiator dominated the big screen\, winning the Academy Award for Best Picture. Meanwhile\, NSYNC and Britney Spears were at the peak of their pop stardom\, and the Nokia 3310 became the must-have cellphone of the year. \nConsumer goods reflected the digital shift\, as DVD players became increasingly popular\, and gas prices hovered around $1.56 per gallon. \nFast-moving\, nostalgic\, and packed with surprises\, this multimedia program offers a fresh perspective on the year 2000. Whether you remember the era vividly or want to learn what made it so pivotal\, this engaging presentation is the perfect way to reflect on the cultural and historical milestones that shaped the early 21st century. Sign up today and take a step back to where it all began! \n====================================== \n

Each year\, huge audiences watch the Oscars\, and the results can make or break a film’s chances at success. They also have a huge impact on the careers of the performers. \nBut as you will see in this unique multimedia presentation\, laden with film clips\, Oscar has snubbed some of the greatest and most popular performers in cinema history! \nThis week\, we will be looking at the great ladies of the silver screen who have been denied the top acting awards! Some of the names on the list are sure to surprise you\, including the phenomenal Amy Adams! \nAlthough some of the amazing women we will feature eventually did win honorary Oscars or lifetime achievement awards\, it is nonetheless incomprehensible that some of Hollywood’s most important and accomplished actresses\, including many who appeared in numerous acclaimed films\, never won an acting Oscar. \nOne important example is Chicago’s own Kim Novak. SUMMARY:Jewish Heroes Of The Civil Rights Movement
DESCRIPTION:Some people incorrectly think of the civil rights movement as African-American people versus white people. \nThe truth is that many white people\, including many Jewish Americans\, provided physical\, emotional\, and monetary support to the movement. It would be more accurate to describe the civil rights battles of the 1950s and 60s as a battle between good and evil. \nThis inspiring and fascinating multimedia presentation will examine how Jewish Americans committed themselves to Dr. King’s goals of freedom\, voting rights\, community\, and an end to discrimination. We will examine \n“King repeatedly used the Jewish experience as a model of success over oppression. He respected and admired the values taught by Judaism and\, as a deeply religious man\, felt inspired by the Torah itself. He was sure that an alliance between blacks and Jews was fundamental to progress in civil rights. King felt a sense of kinship with the Jewish people and welcomed — even expected – – Jewish support and felt let down when it was not forthcoming.” Rabbi Marc Schneier \nThis Is A FREE Presentation\, Presented On Zoom. SUMMARY:Best Actors Never to Win an Oscar
DESCRIPTION:America has been in love with the movies for over 100 years. And every year the race for the Oscar is closely watched by movie fans around the world. Winning the Academy award connotes something special in the history of film. Movie buffs debate the winners and losers\, the snubs\, and the surprises.  But since the 1920s\, the Academy Awards have built a long historical record that we can examine. And that record definitely contains some extremely surprising omissions.   In this fun and fast multimedia presentation\, we will look at which highly-regarded actors have never won a competitive Academy Award \n \nWe will not be considering one specific film performance but the larger question of why a great body of work never yielded an Oscar. For instance\, how did great actors from Hollywood’s golden past\, such as Peter O’Toole\, Cary Grant\, & Richard Burton\, never win an Academy Award? And how has the precious Oscar statuette eluded actors working today\, such as  Tom Cruise\, Johnny Depp\,\nand Harrison Ford\, who have made some of the most highly acclaimed films ever? Don’t miss this fun presentation!

SUMMARY:The Swinging\, Controversial Life Of Frank Sinatra - Part One
DESCRIPTION:  \nFrank Sinatra was one of the most charismatic and controversial American entertainers of all time. \nHe was one of a kind!  \nClick here to read about his impressive record on Civil Rights. \nIn this brand-new multimedia presentation\, I will trace the biography of Sinatra’s improbable life. We will look at his odd childhood as a skinny Italian street kid in working-class Hoboken\, New Jersey. His father was a prizefighter turned saloon keeper; his mother was a hard-drinking suffragette and political power in Hoboken who also made a living by performing abortions. We will look at Sinatra’s bumpy road to stardom. His career had so many ups and downs! Frank Sinatra seemed unstoppable from singing with the Harry James and Tommy Dorsey big bands to being the idol of the Bobby Sox brigades in the early 1940s. But when he avoided serving in World War II and musical tastes began to shift\, his career went into a steep decline that was only rescued by the help of the Mafia and his fantastic performance in the movie “From Here To Eternity.” \n \nThe rest of the Frank Sinatra story is equally fascinating. Swingin’ Sinatra\, the Rat Pack\, JFK\, Marilyn Monroe\,  and an abiding dedication to Israel and civil rights are part of the story. So are Lucky Luciano\, Sam Giancana\, Skinny D’Amato\, Jilly Rizzo and the Mafia. (Click here to read about how Peter Lawford connected Sinatra to JFK!)In this one-of-a-kind presentation filled with video clips\, amazing anecdotes\, and insightful analysis\, we will look at all sides of the one and only Chairman of the Board\, Frank Sinatra. \n
