SUMMARY:The Life Of Robin Williams
DESCRIPTION:The Life Of Robin Williams\nRobin Williams was one of the funniest comedians of all time.  His improvisational skills were almost other-worldly!  Yet behind the comic persona lay a complex man- intensely charitable and compassionate but plagued by insecurity\, battling addictions\, and vulnerable to depression. In this multi-media presentation\, we will examine the fascinating life and sad death of Robin Williams – and watch as his fantastic career took shape! \nWhile early audiences remember him as Mork\, others remember his free-form\, intense improvisational riffs.  We will also celebrate his long\, accomplished and acclaimed career as a film actor. \n \nLike fellow comedian Steve Martin\, Robin Williams became a superb movie actor. Over time\, he took on acting roles in almost every genre. Robin Williams was excellent in drama\, comedy\, animation\, thrillers – and made an indelible impression in all. He could play a research neurologist in one film and a cross-dressing nanny in the next. Williams was nominated several times for Oscars\, including a win playing a compassionate and serious psychotherapist in “Good Will Hunting.” \nWe will look at clips from a wides sampling of his movie work\, including “Mrs. Doubtfire\,” “Aladdin\,” “Awakenings\,” “One Hour Photo\,” “Good Morning\, Vietnam\,” “A Night At The Museum\,” “Good Will Hunting” and many more. \nAlthough we will undoubtedly talk about Robin Williams’ tragic death\, most of this fascinating presentation will focus on the extraordinary life and truly unparalleled talent of one of the most unique and funniest men of all time – the great Robin Williams. \n

SUMMARY:Irving Berlin
DESCRIPTION:Irving Berlin has often been called the quintessential American songwriter of all time.  This is high praise for anyone – especially for an uneducated young immigrant from Russia who came to America not speaking a word of English. \nAs with so many immigrants\, Irving Berlin came to love this country deeply and abidingly.  He never lost his sense of gratitude to the USA!  But Irving Berlin’s music is much more important  than just the unforgettable anthem “God Bless America.” \nThroughout his 60-year career\, Irving Berlin wrote more than 1500 songs.  While many are forgotten\, his best work is among the best ever written for the movies and the Broadway stage. \nWhen Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers were dancing “Cheek to Cheek\,”  they danced to Irving Berlin’s music.  When soldiers lamented\, “Oh\, How I Hate to Get up in the Morning\,” they sang Irving Berlin.  On Christian holidays\, people sang “White Christmas” or  “Easter Parade.”  I wonder how many of those people remembered that the songs were written by a Jewish man who celebrated neither Easter nor Christmas! \nThe very long life and sixty-year career of the great Irving Berlin\, from “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” to  “Annie Get Your Gun\,” is one of the most fascinating stories of American popular culture history.  I can’t wait to share with you this outstanding multimedia presentation. \nTHIS PROGRAM IS FREE ON ZOOM!  REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER!

SUMMARY:Rodgers And Hammerstein
DESCRIPTION:So\, just how good were Rodgers and Hammerstein? In a 16-year career\, they wrote 11 musicals.\n \nSix of those musicals are among the very best ever produced! The greatest  hits of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II include: \n√ Oklahoma \n√ Carousel \nV The King and I (click here for a look at the fascinating story of the real Anna and the King!) \n√ South Pacific (click here for the fantastic story of why they wanted to write about racism) \n√ Cinderella \n√ The Sound Of Music \nTheir shows are so brilliant\, breathtaking\, and visionary that 75 years after Oklahoma premiered and changed the entire course of American musical theater\, it still thrills audiences. When it was revived in 2019\, with an African American woman in the lead and a brilliant actress in a wheelchair playing Ado Annie\, it won the Tony Award as the best musical revival! \nUsing numerous clips from Broadway and the movies\, fascinating behind-the-scenes anecdotes\, and fascinating biographical information on each member of the team\, cultural historian (and self-described Broadway Nerd) Barry Bradford will take us deep into the legacy and the impact of the most fabulous Broadway songwriting duo of all times: Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II! \nTHIS PROGRAM IS FREE ON ZOOM. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. \nCLICK HERE FOR REGISTRATION \n
