DESCRIPTION:Traditionally\, Andrew Jackson was seen as one of our greatest presidents. A bold\, decisive leader who expanded civil rights to poor white males\,  defeated the British at a key battle in the war of 1812\, helped to open the frontier\, and expanded the power of the presidency.  Jacksonian democracy became a phrase in the wake of his popular presidency and his image was placed on the $20 bill. A popular consensus grew that he was in the top tier of greatest presidents. (Talk about heroic – Charlton Heston even played him in a movie!) \n  \nToday\, historians take a more critical view of Jackson. His actions led to a genocide among Native Americans\, he was a racist\, violent slave owner and did little to offer democracy to anyone beyond his supporters. Which view is more correct?
