SUMMARY:Understanding The Election Of 2008
DESCRIPTION:Understanding The Election Of 2008\nIf the election of 2008 had been written as a movie script\, it could not have been more exciting. We faced the possibility that we would elect the first woman to the presidency\, the first African-American to the presidency or perhaps one of America’s greatest war heroes to the presidency. The nomination battles were thrilling\, the personalities were oversized\, and just when it couldn’t seem to get any more fascinating\, Sen. McCain chose  Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate! \nIn this insightful\, nonpartisan multimedia presentation\, you will learn about the backgrounds of each of the campaigns and candidates in the election of 2008. You’ll learn the very different election strategies that each pursued. We will look at the role of technology\, social media\, race\, television\, and the debates as factors in deciding an election like no other. The election of 2008 provides us a fascinating glimpse into the future of campaigning.   \nWe’ll see how social media and voter tracking began to replace television advertising as a means of motivating voters.  This effort led to long lines of voters across the country. We’ll also examine how one party began to utilize restrictive voting laws as a desperate means to try and ensure victory through voter suppression. \nThe career politician and war hero hero against a candidate with a painfully thin resume; a vice-presidential candidate with a penchant for gaffes versus one seemingly in way over her head.  This presentation on the election of 2008 is not to be missed. \n

SUMMARY:The GOP In An Open Field: The Republicans Look At 2016
DESCRIPTION:The GOP In An Open Field: The Republicans Look At 2016\nGOP 2016 \n  \nAs the Presidency of Barack Obama winds down we finish a two part look at the candidates who are likely to seek the nomination of their party for the Presidency. \n“The GOP In An Open Field 2016” looks at the likely GOP candidate. Conventional wisdom says that Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee if she chooses to run.  However\, at this writing\,the GOP does not have a frontrunner. This is unusual for the Republicans\, who almost inevitably have a presumed nominee in mind years before a Presidential Election \nThe potential GOP candidates are a racially ethnically diverse field\, much more so than their Democratic counterparts! At least three major Hispanic candidates (Ted Cruz\, Marco Rubio\, Susana Martinez) two African-American candidates (Ben Carson and Allen West) a number of talented women (Martinez\, Kelly Ayotte\, Nikki Haley) and two Indian Americans (Haley and Bobby Jindal) have been mentioned as potential contenders. Add to that mix major powers such as Jeb Bush\, Chris Christie\, Rand Paul\, Scott Walker and Paul Ryan) and you have a fascinating field indeed!   We will look at the intriguing and colorful GOP bench in this fast moving multimedia presentation
