SUMMARY:The King And I
DESCRIPTION:“The King and ” is one of the most beloved musicals of all time. The gorgeous music\, sumptuous sets\, phenomenal costumes and  a fascinating story line all combine to make The King and I a musical that has had decades of popularity on the Broadway stage and as a major movie musical. The most recent Broadway revival\, stage to perfection by Lincoln Center and pictured above\, was a critical and popular smash. It won the Tony Award for Best Revival Of A Musical. This is the revival that is coming to the Broadway in Chicago series. \nIn this unique\, brand new multimedia presentation\, we will look at the true story behind “The King and I.”  There actually was a British schoolteacher named Anna who went to Siam (as it was then called) in the mid-1800s to teach the children of the King.  As you will see\, the Broadway and Hollywood musical versions take great liberties with the true story. While we love the music\, costumes\, songs and sets\, “The King and I” is actually banned and despised throughout Thailand today! We will look at all of that and so much more\, including clips from all the different movie versions of the story. This is a presentation you simply will not want to miss! \nWe will trace the Broadway productions\, featuring the glorious revival which will be appearing at Broadway in Chicago. \nBONUS! Click here to read about the real life Anna!

SUMMARY:Hamilton: The Man\, Miranda And The Musical
DESCRIPTION:Who could have predicted that an 818 page biography of America’s first secretary of the treasury\, Alexander Hamilton\, would become one of the biggest Broadway smashes of all time? Yet this fascinating blend of history and hip-hop\, political debate and show tunes has not only swept the Tony awards\, but played to standing room only audiences  for over a year!  Naturally\, as a historian who lives for Broadway\, I couldn’t wait to be in the audience. And I can tell you that the show more than lives up to its hype. “Hamilton” is truly an amazing work of genius – a completely unique combination of history\, music\, performance and thought-provoking content that will long be considered a hallmark in the history of Broadway. \n Alexander Hamilton: The Man\, The Writer\, The Musical\n In this brand-new\, fast-paced and fascinating multimedia presentation\, I will offer audiences  a mini biography of the real Alexander Hamilton and his place in American history. Then we will look at the life and work of Lin-Manuel Miranda\, the genius who created and starred in Hamilton. \nFinally\, we will look at the musical itself. I’ll play excerpts from the songs\, explain the narrative structure and help you have a greater appreciation  for the show\, whether you’ve seen it a dozen times already or are seeing it for the first time!

SUMMARY:Something Rotten and Newsies
DESCRIPTION:O!ur “Broadway Comes to Chicago” series continues with a look at two musicals that are all ready garnering great advance ticket sales and lots of buzz here in Chicago!  \n  What  can you expect from a musical whose marquee promises that: “All Actors Promise To Memorize Most of Their Lines.”   You can expect a LOT of laughs!. Something Rotten is one of those musicals that you just can’t forget. It is  outrageously funny. Truly one of the funniest musicals I’ve ever seen.  the first act contains a song called\, “A Musical” that is so funny\, so over the top that it earned a standing ovation in the middle of the first act. I honestly do not ever remember seeing that happen at a Broadway show before. The music is great\, the situations are wacky and the storyline will have you laughing from beginning to end.  \nNewsies is a hit Disney Broadway musical that has been  wonderfully adapted to the stage. I in my opinion\, the stage version was varsity superior to the movie. Newsies explodes with energy\, drama\, dynamic situations and history. It’s simply a perfect show for theater lovers of all ages and very appropriate for families.   When it first appeared on Broadway\, Newsies won the 2012 Tony award for best choreography and best score of the musical.  I know it will be a fan favorite  during gets return appearance at the Broadway in Chicago venue. \n important note: registration is required to attend this program. Please contact the venue directly for information about how to register and attend!
