SUMMARY:The Election Of 1960
DESCRIPTION:The election of 1960 was one of the most dramatic elections in American history. until the halted recount in the election of 2000\, it was the closest  Presidential election in our lifetimes.  This riveting  multimedia presentation features amazing anecdotes\, entry insights\, and numerous fascinating film clips to help put this most momentous campaign into perspective. \n  \nRichard Nixon was coming off of eight years as vice president to one of the most popular presidents of all time. He had experience in domestic and foreign-policy and was a veteran many tough campaigns. hitill very young\, he offered a new face for the Republican Party’s future. He became the first sitting vice president to earn his party’s nomination since John C Breckenridge exactly 100 years earlier! \n  \nJohn F. Kennedy was only a few years younger than Nixon and considered him a friend. JFK was seen as a lightweight in the Senate\, proposing no major legislation and often missing long stretches of time due to surgeries and hospitalizations. However he was a war hero\, handsome\, charismatic and a best-selling author. He had to defeat a number of older and better known Democrats to earn the nomination. \n  \nAnd then came the campaign for president! Nixon’s national reputation vs. Kennedy’s cool and charisma. With polls showing just a slight Nixon believed throughout the summer\, the two men agreed to something that had never happened before: a series of presidential debates. Those debates turned the course of the election and changed politics\, They demonstrated the importance of television in future campaigns. Throw into the mix the rest of Martin Luther King Jr.\, Nixon’s phlebitis\, Kennedy’s mafia connections\, mystery votes in Illinois and odd campaign choices by Nixon and you have the makings of a fascinating campaign! \nPLEASE NOTE: This presentation is being offered by the Patty Turner Center and registration is required.

SUMMARY:Hillary Clinton - Shattering The Glass Ceiling
DESCRIPTION:Hillary Clinton – Shattering The Glass Ceiling\nAmerica has had powerful and polarizing First Ladies before.  Mary Lincoln.  Eleanor Roosevelt. But no First Lady has ever shattered the glass ceiling like Hillary Clinton.  She has been a lightning rod for the right and icon for progressive women.  Hillary Clinton had already built an amazing professional record before becoming First Lady.  In fact\, no First Lady in history can match her professional career!  When her husband was the Governor of a small southern state\, she was chosen as one of the one hundred most influential lawyers in America! Twice! \nHer amazing success has come at great personal cost. As First Lady she had to deal with her husband’s infidelity and a troubled marriage. Hillary Clinton faced vicious ongoing attacks on her character that included bizarre accusations of murder.  She was serving as the United States Senator from New York on the morning of 9/11.  Her daughter was working not from the World Trade Center and Senator Clinton could not reach her for hours. \nIn 2008\, she came within an eyelash of winning the Democratic nomination and\, likely\, the Presidency.  She then became the only former First Lady to serve in a Cabinet position.  Now she stands close to becoming the first woman ever to serve as president of the United States. But how  much do you know about her personal background? Her relationships with her parents\, her upbringing\, her early years in college and as a lawyer? \nHillary Clinton – Shattering The Glass Ceiling is a multimedia presentation will take you into her family background\, her marriage\, the roots of her personality and her faith. \n
