SUMMARY:Life And Career Of Robert Redford
DESCRIPTION:Robert Redford is one of the most popular American movie actors of all time. Although he was initially thought of as just a “pretty boy” presence\, like Tyrone Power and Paul Newman before him\, Robert Redford proved to be a superb actor.  The life and career of Robert Redford will fascinate you! \nLike his friend and mentor\, Paul Newman\, Robert Redford took a long time to “find himself.” He spent his youth in trouble with the law and drank his way out of a Division One baseball scholarship. \nLife And Career Of Robert Redford\nAfter living a wandering\,  bohemian life in Europe\, Redford returned to the United States and settled into acting. For over half a century\, he has been featured in some of the most popular and important American films of his era. As a Director\, he has won an Academy Award\, become perhaps the most important champion of independent filmmaking through his creation of the Sundance Film Festival\, been hailed as a leading spokesman for environmental protection\, and developed a reputation for philanthropy. Although he is now retired from acting\, the legacy of Robert Redford will impact American film for decades to come. \n  \nThe Highland Park Senior Center hosts this live\, in-person event.   \nIf you are a member of the Highland Park Senior Center\, the event is free. \nIf you are not a member\, the cost to attend is $10> \nPlease note: registration is required.  \n

SUMMARY:Unexpected Movie Teams - Delightful Duos Creating Classic Films (PM)
DESCRIPTION:  \nUnexpected Movie Teams\nSome movie teams seem inevitable and natural.  The Ratpack. Fred and Ginger. But some films boast completely unexpected movie teams. For instance\, did you know that Sidney Poitier and Robert Redford co-starred in a terrific movie with Dan Aykroyd? Or that ditzy Gracie Allen co-starred in a musical with suave Fred Astaire? Sometimes\, unexpected movie teams make for a classic movie. That is the topic for this presentation on classic films – is it any wonder why I love public speaking? \nIn this unique presentation\, we will look at instances where movie stars with very different styles are paired together in combinations that are unique. Consider the teaming of Gregory Peck and Danny DeVito in Other People’s Money.  We will see how unexpected movie teams can create classic cinema. Whether it is the always manic Danny Kaye costarring with the always cool Gene Tierney or Bob Hope – who overplays everything – costarring with Roy Rogers – who underplays everything\, these movies can offer special delights! \nPlease join us!  This presentation will be fun! \nThis multimedia presentation offers background\, analysis and clips from the movies.  Although we will look at many examples\, the films at the centerpiece of the discussions include: \nSneakers (Sidney Poitier and Dan Aykroyd) \nMonkey Business (Cary Grant and Marilyn Monroe) \nOther People’s Money (Danny DeVito and Gregory Peck) \nSon Of Paleface (Bob Hope and Roy Rogers) \nCOST \nI ask for a voluntary donation of $5.00.
