Watergate was the largest and most frightening presidential scandal. In this two-part multimedia presentation, we will look at the roots of the crime and the desperate attempts of the Nixon Administration to cover it up, all of which were unraveled by journalists, a judge, and Congress. We will examine the role of Woodward and Bernstein, as told in two films, in the efforts to uncover the truth. (Part One: Crime and Coverup. Part Two: Investigation and Aftermath.)

The worst Presidential scandal of all time is a tale of vanity and venality, hubris and pettiness. The discovery of the so-called “third-rate burglary” unraveled a conspiracy of immense proportions to subvert the American Constitution. In this fascinating multimedia presentation, we will see how the nation faced and survived its worst Constitutional crisis.

Parts of his story are admirable and exciting. An aspect of Nixon’s background that should not be overlooked is his lifting himself up from a difficult upbringing to becoming a superb student. Despite his challenging roots, he quickly established himself as a political power as a congressman and then a United States senator from California.

The rest of the Richard Nixon story is a study in contrasts. Every time Nixon accomplished something extraordinary, his own poor judgment or lack of restraint, lead him to embarrassment and ultimately disgrace.
