Although his entire career as an elected public official consisted of one term as the governor of Illinois. He ran unsuccessfully for president twice, losing by a landslide each attempt. Yet, so deep was his popularity and widespread his influence that the Democrats considered nominating him a third time for the presidency. It is exceedingly rare for a man trounced in a presidential election to get a second shot at the office. It is even rare for someone to have lost twice and still be considered one of the greatest stars in the history of his political party. Such is the influence of Adlai Stevenson.
This fascinating multimedia presentation will look at Stevenson’s roots in downstate Illinois as the son and grandson of important citizens of the state.
