Barbara Stanwyck may be the greatest movie actress who never won an Oscar. Her 
career spanned some eighty-five films over six decades.
Ms. Stanwyck could play any kind of role. She was heartbreaking in dramas like “Stella Dallas” and “Titanic.” In great comedies like “Ball Of Fire” and “The Mad Miss Manton,” Barbara Stanwyck’s perfect comic timing stole the show, She played a romantic lead in “Christmas in Connecticut), a gorgeous, clever con artist in “The Lady Eve,” a non-nonsense Western heroine in “Forty Guns,” and a preacher who was alternatively pious or manipulative in Frank Capra’s “Miracle Woman.
She may best be e remembered for playing strong but fallen women in films like Billy Wilder’s classic mystery “Double Indemnity,” But no matter what the role demanded, she could handle it. After her movie career faded, she became a television star, working into her eighties on shows like “The Big Valley,” “The Thorn Birds,” and “The Colbys.”
