Journalism In The Movies
May 15, 2016 @ 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
I am proud to introduce a brand new series about classic cinema: “Journalism in the Movies.”
Stories about newspaper reporters are tailor made for the big screen. Reporters can face daunting odds, corrupt politicians, complex conspiracies, violent criminals and personal danger while chasing a story on deadline. And that can make for an exciting, powerful, suspenseful movie! Each week of this series will focus on a different theme.
This week we will look at how women reporters have been portrayed on the silver screen. From Glenda Farrell in The “Torchy Blaine” series (at left, playing a character based on Dorothy Kilgallen) to Rachel McAdams in “Spotlight” there have been some phenomenal performances by actresses playing reporters. Other films that will be examined include the classic comedy “His Girl Friday” (Rosalind Russell) and the riveting drama”Absence of Malice” (Sally Field.)
