The Great Filmmakers: Frank Capra
January 26, 2018 @ 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
The movies directed by Frank Capra were so wildly popular and so distinctive that ‘Capra-esque’ became an adjective meaning a feel-good, uplifting film with a positive social message. From “It’s a Wonderful Life” to “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” to “It Happened One Night”, the movies of Frank Capra were enormously popular, incredibly influential and historically significant.
Yet Frank Capra – this most American of filmmakers – was an Italian immigrant who helped America to see its many virtues clearly and movingly. His immigrant’s eye and his deep love for the United States combined to create unforgettably American films.
In this fast moving and fascinating multimedia presentation, we will look at Frank Capra’s unique life story, from Italian immigrant to day laborer to world renowned filmmaker. In addition to the fascinating biographical information, we will take the time to examine many clips from his phenomenal films, To understand the power and influence of Frank Capra is to understand the power of film as a medium. Don’t miss this amazing presentation!
