Time Travel In The Movies
November 30, 2014 @ 1:00 PM - 3:20 PM
This event is not open to the general public.I am not a science fiction fan at all. But something about the concept of traveling through time appeals to the historian in me! Imagine being a silent witness to the murder of JFK or actually hearing Lincoln deliver the Gettysburg Address or listen to the Sermon on the Mount. (OK, you’d need to understand Aramaic for the last one, but still you get my point.)
Because movies are not bound by the laws of physics or reality, they can take this concept and run with it! The results are often startling and quite beautiful.
BEST MOVIES ABOUT TIME TRAVEL
In this three week series I will explore some of the wonderful films that have used time travel as a device for telling a great story. Among the films I will discuss will be:
About Time
Back To The Future
Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure
Groundhog Day
Midnight In Paris
Peggy Sue Got Married
Somewhere In Time
The Philadelphia Experiment
The Time Traveler’s Wife
Time After Time
Time Bandits
I have avoided straight out sic-fi movies like Terminator, TimeCops and Planet Of The Apes, although each have their merits. I valued sorry above action and depth above guns. What are your favorites? Leave comments below.
