Women Sports Pioneers

I am excited to offer this new class, a multimedia presentation about women who were pioneers in sports! From historical greats like Babe Zaharias to modern trailblazers like Simone Biles, we will look at the fascinating stories of women who broke barriers in sports.

Click here to read about one of them -Margaret Abbott. She was the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal. She died half a century later and never knew she had been in the Olympics!  

The great stories include the amazing journey of Agnes Keleti – the Hungarian Jewish woman whose Olympic career was delayed until she was 31 because she was in hiding during the Holocaust, and Althea Gibson, the African-American woman who survived abuse and life on the streets to win at Wimbledon!
