World War I – 1914 to 1917 - Before The USA Landed "Over There"

World War I World War I – 1914 to 1917

“I can predict with absolute certainty that within another generation there will be another world war if the nations of the world do not concert the method by which to prevent it.” Woodrow Wilson, after the end of World War I

The Forgotten War?

World War I

2014 – 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of World War I. Somehow it seems longer ago than that. The sheer enormity of World War II eclipsed the “Great War.” Some historians have argued that in a sense World War II should not be seen as a separate war. It should merely be seen as an extension of World War I. This fast-paced multimedia presentation will trace the roots of World War I, looking at the personalities and history behind the calamitous decision to go to war.

We will pay special attention to how the United States looked at the growing conflict in Europe and how our policy shifted from isolationism to interventionism. The next two weeks will bring additional classes in which we will  examine Pres. Wilson and the United States involvement in combat.
